Is there a human species-mind that includes us all, yet has a separate mind of its own? That controls the growth of civilization?

LTR you are getting into the basic tenets of spirituality, which I've studied since 1976 and still don't understand completely. I think it is because my human mind just won't expand that far. But to put it into a nutshell, we actually are part of a collective that is about two or three steps upward. We were allowed to individualize and experience duality on earth. Duality being the forgetting of who we are and where we came from to be a human being in a physical form on earth. Somewhere in between our little human mind and the collective is something called the "oversoul", which is one biggie self in charge of our little dimensional souls.
Whew, boy, I'm stepping into dangerous territory and will have loads of Christians on my back because they can't or won't comprehend this. But I really don't care because in a few more lifetimes, they will start to understand it.
But your last sentence, I personally do not believe that a human-species mind controls our civilization. I think our civilization(s) have evolved from our own endeavors from our own minds. This is a planet of free will, not predestination. Even the Bible speaks of that.
Now, LTR, I am familiar with some of the things you have posted in the past, and I think you have posted this to make people discuss what they think. So I will say this. To those who are "head blind" as one great sci-fi author put it, you can google anything I've said here and find information on it. You also have the right to not believe any of it. Some key words are "human duality", "oversoul", "Kabbalah", "Hindu beliefs", "Gnostic Gospels". That should get you started.

I have read into these things to a certain extent. These include pieces to the puzzle, I am sure.

How does an ant colony work?

From what I understand from greater minds than mine, ants, cats, dogs, geese, fish, etc., unlike humans, are of a collective mind, which upon the death of their bodies return to. This explains the flying in perfect unison of geese that has awed us all. A good illustration of this is Odo (remember him from Star Trek Deep Space Nine?) who was part of a collective and was allowed to live as an individual among humans. Then he found his collective family and they allowed him to return to them. He later would come and go in and out of the collective in the series.

That's life's great mystery. I'm sure some people would say because [their] God made things that way.

Now, if you asked me if the bacteria in our guts was communicating and controlling us collectively I'd be inclined to believe it.

I don't think that, but I do think those bacteria have their own "selves", and aren't aware of "Us". Why couldn't there be somwthing like that above humans?

Ok. I will say my belief is that the spark that drives our biological form is a part of some whole. But I don't think it communicates with other parts, or the whole during our lifetime.
