   No Amazon earnings for six days! At this time of the year. I've not seen anything like this for years - it's usually a really good time for me

      Mine are very low but still there. Might it be related to descreased traffic/higher bounce rate this year?

         Traffic is way down, almost by half. My articles normally rank highly on Google but they've sunk. I'm not sure what to do - I've changed a few titles, but it made no difference.
         
         Amazon used to pay me around $200-$300 pm. Now lucky to get $30-$40.

         Luckily, as a self-employed person, I am getting subsidised because of Covid, which is making up my earnings to 80% of usual profits so not really losing out financially.

            It is good that you are covered in that way. I just took a look and my amazon earnings for October are a fifth of what they were last year. Commission rate cuts are a part of it, I presume.

         Hi Fran,
         
         You can add Amazon if your article references an item that is necessary to the topic, let's say it's a hub about the process of making jam and there is a certain pan that you use and would recommend.
         
         You would mention in the text why this particular pan works well for you and perhaps include any relevant information and even a photo of it in action. Highlight the name of the pan (as it appears on Amazon) then click on the chain link in the text capsule toolbar. A pop-up will appear. You'll see an Amazon tab about halfway down. Click it and you should see the item in the list. Click it, then click Save on the pop-up.
         
         Your anchor text should now be red with an A in front of it. However, if the article is moved to a network site it will now be just underlined with no indication it is an Amazon link - which I hope will get fixed in the near future.
         
         If someone clicks on your link and purchased the pan - or anything else within a 24 hour period, you will eventually receive the commission in your earnings. Commission is split 60/40 hubber/Hubpages.
         
         If you go to my profile and look at the top spinning thingy, you'll see article called, 'How to Write a Good Article for HubPages'. There's an example within it of an Amazon link to a mind-mapping book.

               No, you only earn if they buy something. There is a built in two-month lag between the sale and when you receive your Amazon earnings. This is just in case the item is returned. Sometimes you might see a minus figure in your earnings report when there has been a return/refund.

                     They aren't in capsules. They are in line text links. I don't put Amazon in every article I write because it's not always appropriate to do so. Check out "How to Write a Good Article for HubPages" and look under the subtitle, 'Writing to the Title'.
                     
                     The reason I am using that article as an example is because it is still on HubPages so you can easily see the red A link. On the network articles it is much harder to see them as they are a very unobtrusive underline.

      Me too and on my own site as well.  This year has been my best year year for Amazon sales and earnings despite the reduction in commissions.

         On my own site, I am doing the best I ever have on Amazon. Not here though. Even during the regular summer months where my HP income doubled year on year, Amazon was cut in half.

               Interesting. My personal site is a home and kitchen site and the commission cuts on individual affiliates already happened almost a year before they were cut here on HP. I guess that and my niche not really changing (4% all the time) is the reason I am doing better on my site, but here on HP I dropped with the reduction in rates.
               
               It is weird that we differ on Amazon here because all or most of my Amazon sales are through my gardening hubs. HP ad earnings did increase year on year as mentioned in the last post. I'll have to wait and see how Amazon on HP performs for me.

   This should be the height of my Amazon sales as well and I made a measly 5 sales last month.
   
   My traffic is terrible, but I also think it is in part related to the fact that they still have yet to change the design of the links. The Amazon links are still simply underlined words and there is no indication that it is an affiliate link at all, which I thought was required.

   If anything the number of my Amazon sales are up, but the commission is way down.  Down to the tune of several hundred dollars each month compared to last year.
   
   The change in commission rates really hurt me.
