The San Diego Unified School District’s in-person education program for children who have illegally crossed the border has spurred an angry response from those who wonder why in-person education cannot be provided for American children.
The district on Monday announced that it was seeking teachers for about 1,450 illegal immigrant girls ages 14-17 who will be temporarily housed at the San Diego Convention Center.
The illegal immigrants are expected to be at the center through July.

The noble words grated on the ears of those who wish the district’s children could have been first on the list for in-person education.

Students have been limited to online-only learning all year, and even when schools partially reopen on April 12, they will use a hybrid model that includes some in-person classes but more online education.
“We have 130,000 kids who haven’t been allowed in a classroom for over a year in the San Diego United School District. It’s great that there’s in-person learning for those unaccompanied minors from Central America, but I wish every child in San Diego Country was allowed the same opportunity for in-person teaching,” San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond said Monday on Twitter.
“The system is broken when San Diego teachers are teaching migrant children in person, but the 100k students of taxpaying families at San Diego Unified School District are stuck learning in Zoom school,” parent Emily Diaz told Fox News.
“We agree that every child deserves an in-person education, but why are taxpaying students put last? If this is a humanitarian issue then who is rescuing San Diego Unified students, because our leaders have failed them,” Diaz said.

That is San Diego Unified's decision. There are other districts in San Diego with in class learning. Besides if classrooms can open to in class learning is determined by California's tier system. And, what does HHS have to do with San Diego Unified?

San Diego Unified is funded by US taxpayers, not illegal immigrants.  If the teachers at San Diego Unified can't have in-person learning with American students because of COVID...they shouldn't be doing in-person teaching with illegal immigrant children where the chances of exposure to COVID is probably much higher.  The taxpaying parents who have children attending San Diego Unified pay the teachers salaries and the administrators salaries.
        Their children should come first.

So is half the state or more. Can you tell me what they will do with over 1,000 illegal immigrant kids. Five days a week?

Edit: What does this have to do with Democrats?

Should the taxpayers in San Diego pay for the education of non-citizens who are here illegally?

What you should do with over 1,000 illegal immigrant children?  Send them back to their country of origin.  Back to their parents.

Ha, Ha Yeah I guess if you send them back then no need to worry how many days a week each child will be in class.

Who says San Diego tax payers will pay for it other than the Fed taxes that goes to HHS?

                    1. The teachers salaries are paid by the citizens of San Diego...so...they are paying for the education of illegal immigrant children.

                    2. If they are Fed Taxes, then San Diego parents as well as the citizens in the United States are paying for it.

I read an article from the New York Post that quotes San Diego County Office of Education chief of staff Music Watson. He claims --- "Our teachers have been asked if they’re interested in working at the convention center site, as opposed to the worksites they are assigned to. So, for example, one of our teachers who normally works at School X could volunteer to change their placement, working at the convention center site instead of School X,” San Diego County Office of Education chief of staff Music Watson told Fox News in an email.

Students in the San Diego school district are now getting online instruction, but that will change on April 12 when the schools move into a hybrid model that will allow both in-person and online education.

“Fifteen county office employees who have volunteered will be teaching at the convention center,” Watson said. “These employees are not receiving any additional pay. An additional 1,179 educators have expressed interest in learning more about volunteering at the site. None of those 1,179 have been contracted to teach at the convention center.”

"A teacher questioned the soundness of the policy.

“Why would anyone volunteer to go in that situation and put our own students at risk with COVID running amok. My first obligation is my current students’ health. Why would the board of education allow putting our kids at risk of getting COVID?” one California teacher told Fox News.

“I have parents now nervous to send their kids to school because they’re afraid their teacher who is volunteering to teach in-person to migrant kids is going to give our own students COVID,” the teacher said."

At this point, I am not as concerned about the 1000 or so unfortunate migrant children held in a San Diego center.    I am more concerned about the fact we have as of Mach 3,   15,500 unaccompanied children in custody, according to border patrol. And they expect many more in the next few months.  Now, this is one hell of a big problem.

China tariffs and a wall was a bad idea for cheap affordable products. Americans are working too hard already.

If you think this is right...all of you may be a big foggy on reality.  How about compassion for American children or Americans struggling?  Shouldn't they come first before people who break our laws to come into the country?

Grow up. For Democrats, the word "compassion" is apparently code for open borders.... for anyone, including drug cartels and sex traffickers, not just people who want a better job..

Do you not have "compassion" for those who have come here legally, who have waited in line and paid their dues to become good American citizens? Are you okay with people cutting in line? Does that work for you at the grocery store.... in traffic....or anywhere at all?

      I doubt it highly.

Do you have compassion for children who are sex-trafficked... or for two-year old's dropped over a 14 foot wall while their captors run for cover because of your president's call for open borders? Do you?

      Spare me your so-called  "compassion."

I guarantee, if cartels came to the land you own (which you likely do not have) and threatened your life, you might very well have a  different perspective.....

Ranchers, in borderlands of Texas and New Mexico, see illegals (mostly men) dressed in full-head masks and camouflage fatigues.... Yes, that is an actual fact.

Those camouflaged men are trafficker's of drugs and child sex. And naturally, those American ranchers are concerned for the safety of their families, as any decent person would and should be.

But, of course, you wouldn't know anything about that... because of "compassion.".

Do some real homework, for once in your life.

      You have no idea.

So much for typical, far-left, uniformed Democrats who deem themselves "compassionate."

The cluelessness and hypocrisy of the left is truly astounding.

The above is only one of many articles... if you care to do some research and soul searching.... like any truly compassionate human being would feel compelled to do.

It seems like it is too early to know the details of this program. All references I found seemed to be repeating a few common `facts' drawn from some initial official announcement.

It is announced as a "Spring break" timeframe—not a "regular" school period. But, I doubt it will be stopped at the end of that spring break timeframe.

The teachers are being asked to volunteer, but I don't think it means they won't be paid. I think it only means teachers won't be assigned that duty.

Also, the curriculum is said to be only English language and socio-emotional classes, ie. Arts-type classes.

Relative to another comment; this school district isn't the only school district in the county, but it is the largest, with the next largest being about 33%-40% of the size of SDUSD. (103,000 vs. 39,000 students)

Following the state's color-code guidelines, San Diego county is rated Substantial, a level below the worst Purple level, and a level that lets the county decide whether to open its schools and how they open.

Realistically speaking, if this program is the temporary "Spring break" session it is claimed to be, then I think it is a very dumb move. The PR effect is devastating, (and I think deservedly so), and the SDUSD leaders deserve the criticism raining down on them.

More proof that Democrats prefer illegal aliens over American citizens.

"President Biden's coronavirus rescue plan czar Eugene Sperling to review the $2 billion fund New York created this week aimed at giving relief money to illegal immigrants in the state."

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house- … immigrants

Why don't legal immigrants and American citizens mean anything to the Democrat party?

It's a shame they're so willing to sacrifice money that could be used to help American citizens to help people who are here illegally. I believe the needs of Americans should be met first.

Oh, that's a given. So many are in need. We have people losing their homes, needing food assistance, and so much more. American's should definitely be aided first. But again all about numbers... and bringing in Federal cash with the numbers. Sick is it not?
