Get Frisked or Get Undressed

   In the UK an Xray machine which shows naked images of passengers has  now been introduced. This way security can immediately spot hidden weapons or explosives. Its currently in Manchester Airport as a Trial. Obviously this will come into effect in many more Airports eventually.
   
   Would you prefer to be frisked or just appear undressed on camera?
   
   Do you think it is an invasion of privacy? (some people do)

      It's interesting to see the replies to your question, Lady_E. They come from younger and older, from the US and the UK. A small sampling of the world, but telling nonetheless.  My view stands outside theirs.
      
      I stopped flying after 9/11.  Not because I was afraid, but because I felt, and do feel today, that my privacy is important, as is my money.  If I spend a thousand US dollars on an air ticket, I don't intend to be treated like a piece of potential terrorist meat.  My 80-year-old aunt was strip-searched on a domestic flight shortly after this 9/11 tragedy.  Why?
      
      Many things have gone bad with the world, yet many things are going "good".  The x-ray you tell of is just one step to making travel safer, but the truth of it is that we still don't have it right.  If we humans can eliminate prejudice, hatred, and hostility, then we don't need any friggin x-rays.  We have a long way to go to get back to where we were.

         Your words are so true and surely there was no need to put your Aunt through that terrible ordeal. That's quite upsetting.
         
         All these security measures did come after the terrorists attacks and yes, some of the underlying factors are prejudice, hatred and hostility. We haven't even talked about how much money is now being spent on Security at Airports. I'm sure its increased so much.

      It is a complete invasion of privacy. They installed many of these throughout the world; yet they have not found alot of hidden weapons. Although several porn stars were questioned intimately by customs officials recently at Auckland airport.

   Maybe it's just me, but I've been frisked so many times in airports due to underwire bras, or belt buckels or whatever, that I am totally desensitized to the whole thing. Just get me on the darn plane!

   Afraid to be Nude on camera? Did everyone forget were all nude under the clothes anyway? I don't see it as a problem if its for safety. I'd rather have everyone be seen nude without bombs, then clothed with them

   I can also see fat people not liking it much. But then who cares about fat people.

   The images really are not that explicit. Hard to see what all the fuss is about.
   
   If you're female and afraid your recent lack of bikini waxing will be visible on the scan, fear not. Your bits and pieces will not all be revealed in glorious technicolour.
   
   However, like I said previously, if you're a fatty, then your body shape and the folds of your fat will be visible. So, good idea to get started with a diet eh?

      Yes, I'm overweight or I would not have said that.  I'm 35 pounds overweight because of all the steroids that were pumped into me while I was receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer.  After that, I had radiation therapy which apparently affected my thyroid - now I have hypothyroidism which causes a slowing of my metabolism and, thus, weight gain.  I had both breasts taken away from me, as well as my ovaries.  That sent me into menopause at age 39 - weight gain.  I'm trying like hell to get the weight off while having to deal with all the emotions and shame and anger that come along with it.
      
      Maybe you should try to be a better person and see people as people.  You don't know me and what I'm going through to be able judge me.
      
      As for the question at hand - I would be okay with either because I do believe, especially here in the US, that the security at our airports needs to be better.

   Its nice to know so far on the thread, that no one's got qualms about it. I don't - it doesn't take a face pic, its just an image and one of the benefits has been stated by Uninvited Writer - Its easier.
   
   The Airport is hoping it will speed up things.

   Never been frisked thankfully but never want to go through that. Only my husband can frisk me thanks! lmao so I guess an X-ray is okay EXCEPT X-rays can cause cancer so I hope that they have figured out what to do about that little factor!

       Great minds think alike.... they can x-ray me all they want.
       
       On a serious note, anything that improves airport security has to be a positive thing. And we all know why. Over there you had 9/11, and over here we had Lockerbie, etc etc.
       
       Airports are the one place that I would lose certain liberties in return for assurances over safety when your miles up in the air in a flimsy aluminium shell filled with hundreds of gallons of explosive fuel.

          9/11 was truly sad.  I have only been to New York one time.  Went to the top of the World Trade Center.  I can remember many details and could picture what the building looked like and imagine what people would have been going through.

    As long as the machines are, like the rest of airport security should be, operated with strictest professionalism, I don't have any problem with that. Frisking and strip searching are more invasive.
    
    By the way, the first trip I took by plane since 9-11, my then-infant son had to be searched because the snaps on his sleeper set off the metal detectors. I was immensely grateful that the people in line behind me were being good sports (and actually having a pretty good laugh about this), because it's incredibly difficult to get a child who's just learned how to crawl to sit still and cooperate with a search. Much easier to just take him through the X-ray.
