    At the World Gymnastics Championships yesterday, this young Colombian girl had a terrible fall, landing on her head while executing a double somersault. Usually, these floor exercises go so smoothly. This just shows how risky some of these maneuvers really are. Let's hope she makes a fast and complete recovery.

    I can't view YouTube videos but I found some photgraphs of what happened. There is no doubt that a neck injury was sustained in the fall. I will certainly pray for a speedy recovery.

    I was watching the competition with some interest because UK had a medal hope, Beth Tweddle, who managed to secure the Gold. It was just following Beth's winning performance that Jessica Gil took the floor. There's a lot of controversy over the training of very young girls in gymnastics, but this girl had come through all that, and is a mature young athlete. A great shame.

    That's awful. Now my neck hurts in sympathy. If you ever really thwack your head on something it's the worst pain.
