I put it to all of you Hubbers more experienced in copyright laws, etc...
I have a lot of really comprehensive notes from essays, journals, and books I've had to read in college. I would love to share them so they don't "go to waste" and would like to put up "study guide" type hubs (like my own SparkNotes or something). If I don't quote extensively from the original work, is there any reason I might get in trouble for this? I don't want to make money off of the author's work but off of my own work in summarizing their points. Does this make sense? Or is it a terribly grey area as far as intellectual property rights?
Study guides sound like a great idea, and wouldn't be stepping on anyone's toes. The difficulty would be stumbling over the "duplicate content" filter if you quote chunks from the original work.
You might have to experiment to see how they sound with minimal quotes.
Thanks, Marisa! I knew that would be an issue, but most of my notes just have extensive paraphrasing with minimal direct quotations. I'll start putting them up as soon as I get the chance!

Do you more experienced Hubbers believe writing about controversial topics like politics hurts or help your page traffic? For example, if you disagree with someone's political Hub, will you not visit their other Hubs?

Question: I recently changed the title of one of my hubs. The original title was "When You're Afraid." I decided it was much too general, so my new title, Battling Entrenched Corruption in Alabama" more accurately reflects the content of the hub. However, when I go to that hub, the...
