Going back to your old job

   If you lost your job and couldn't stand your boss before the separation, but got a call back, say, several weeks later; would you go back?

      That would depend on the following:
      
      (a) whether I had a new job/source of income
      
      (b) how desperate I was for money
      
      (c) how much I hated my boss.
      
      Generally speaking my motto is "keep walking and don't look back" whenever I leave a bad situation.  So there would really have to be compelling reasons for me to go back to a job where I disliked my boss as much as that. 
      
      YMMV of course.

      I guess it would depend on why you lost your job, but if you were unhappy there and didn't get along with your boss, I would say keep walking forward or you might end up exactly as you were.

      that actually happened to me...i was also enticed with a $5000 raise. but i didn't go back and i am way better off for it because the company closed 6 months later and i found something better anway! i suppose if i were starving i would have gone back but just long enough to survive til something better came along.

   I'd probably get some coaching around why I hated him to start with. If I resolved that, I'd go back, if not, I wouldn't.

   I would keep walking.  It's too hard on you mentally to deal with a boss that you hate everyday.

   Of course income is an issue, but...
   
   Having been active duty military for 20 years, and having no choice about things, I'd try to avoid dealing with a-holes now if possible.

   I recently got fired from a job I had as a cook and my boss gave me all sorts of bogus reasons as to why. The only real reason was the one he didn't mention. Talking to ex-coworkers of mine, I came to find out that the person who replaced me was making much less than I was. That was just a couple of months ago and I believe they are now on their fourth person in that position since I left. And since then, I've come to realize how much that job was sucking the life out of me. Needless to say, I wouldn't go back even at double pay or anything else.

   Nothing would have changed and whatever made you decide to leave would not have gone away!. I lost my job in May last year - constructive dismissal. I had been working for a company for 11 years and was a financial director. Our reporting line changed about a year before I left and the new bosses made life at work so unbearable. They had a mission to get rid of the highest paid staff members and managed to get me to decide to leave. (lot's of ways to kill a cat) They subjected me to so much emotional abuse that I started hating the job I had loved and put everything into for the past 11 years.
   It had got to the stage where I was taking "happy pills" before I went to work. Something I had never done before or since. I am still without a permanent job as I am 54 years old and basically too old for the market. My previous position became vacant last week and I would rather sell my house and downscale before I take my job back.

   It's easy to say no if there's another source of income. But if the bills are piling up, I'd say go back and keep looking for another job.

   hi, for me it is okay to go back while looking for a job, but accept shorter contract....hope you can get a job soon also...

    I was just put in this situation, and I went back. For me, right now, any job is better than no job. I am constantly looking for something else, but making money while looking is important.
