      After cruising on a few lines, namely Royal Caribbean, Carnival, QE2, Celebrity and Holland America, we have vowed to cruise only with Holland America.
      Accomodation, comfort, entertainment and quality of food are just a few of the reasons for this statement.

      Carnival and Celebrity are the usually the best low cost options, but Holland America and Princess share the trains and hotels in the interior. It really depends on what you are looking for on your cruise. There are many great itineraries and land tours that can be combined and if you are planning cruise and land, I would definately suggest Holland America or Princess. If you are looking for the lowest cost times, the beginning or the end of the season are usually the most economical. Celebrity has a reputation for the best food, and Carnival for the most fun activities on a shorter trip.

   I have only cruised with three cruise lines ie Holland America, Carnival and Costa and I prefer overall Carnival.  I found that the mix of people on their cruises is a bit more varied (and younger) than Holland America and unfortunately the Costa ship I went on was a converter tanker so it wasnt up to the standards the other two were.  Maybe on a different Costa ship I would have to revise my opinion.
   
   I think to advise on cruise lines you would have to take into account where you were going, how long the cruise was and the ports of call for a more informed comparison.

   It really depends on the passengers and what you want to do. If you're a sun worshipper and partier, Carnival in the Caribbean. If you are taking children, Disney is number one and, believe or not, Royal caribbean is #2 (my opinion). Going to Alaska, Royal Caribbean has great land and sea cruises but has a tendency to stay in ports the shortest time. Be sure to check itineraries if thi is important to you. I spoke with a friend that has cruised over 50 times on all lines and he rate Celebrity #1 overall.

   I would love to go on a cruise but I'm afraid I'll get sea sick too easily.
   
   But from what I've heard like the others stated Royale Caribbean. Had a few family memebers go on that one. :-)

   I went on a Carnival cruise in June that started in San Juan. The itinerary is amazing for this cruise because its Southern Caribbean. So we went to 5 islands in 5 days. Last summer I went on a Carnival cruise as well, the ports weren't as great but the ship itself had better on board activities. But all in all, I've had great experiences with Carnival.

   I know Norwegian promotes its "freestyle cruising" and that sounds appealing. The truth is, you can engage in "freestyle cruising" on any cruise line!
   I agree with those who say it depends on your objective.
   My Hubby, son and nephew and I cruised the Mexican Riveria on Carnival. I had no expectations but was delightfully surprised.
   The ports were actually almost an afterthought!
   
   I would suggest this -- it's worth the extra money to have an outside cabin with a balcony. Made the whole trip for me, being able to sit and watch the schools of dolphins and flying fish.

   Yeah it definitely depends on what you're looking for. I agree with MM, the balcony was definitely worth it on this last trip Take a look at cruisecritic.com, I checked it out before my cruise to find out what excursions were the best, tons of reviews!

    There certainly is no one perfect answer for your query, and everyone seems to have given fairly sound advice. So I will just get my two cents in along with the rest. I have actually just published a website that is all about Princess Cruiseline, so you can go there and read about their Alaskan cruises and Caribbean cruises. For the Alaskan cruises I would recommend the Golden Princess or the Island Princess, they are there for almost the entire season. The Star Princess also offers some Alaskan cruises, but the ship is only there for one month of the year.
    To decide between the Golden Princess and the Island Princess you will need to choose in size, although the two ships are the same length, the Island Princess is slighly more narrow, designed for the Inside Passage and the Panama Canal.
    For Caribbean cruises you need to decide how busy of a ship you wish to cruise on...most cruiselines pack 3400 passengers on a ship the same size as Princess cruiseline, but Princess only carries 2600 passengers on most of their ships, the Caribbean Princess being the exception to this rule with over 3000 passengers. So if you like a very busy ship, these will suffice, but if you want a quieter time...you should consider the Emerald Princess, or the Sun Princess.
