I've noticed that the default URL that HubPages is automatically generating when you type in your title now has hyphens as opposed to the underscores which seemed to be the standard.
A reason for the change?
I read somewhere on Webmaster World that one-two-three would be found by someone searching for one two three or one-two-three, but that one_two_three would only be found by the precise search. And that this is also why onetwothree is also bad.
But I have no proof of any of that!
I'd never thought about it, but it's an interesting question. I did a bit of research and found someone who'd actually tested it out with made up keywords:

It seems you may be right Paraglider!
Search engines do treat underscores as spaces, the same way it does with the hyphens.
If you check out Wikipedia you'll notice they've used underscores since their inception.
And Wikipedia do fantastically well at being found by search engines.
That shouldn't affect old hubs, right?
I assume they aren't being converted to underscores??

I take out all the hyphens when I make my URl for my articles. To me it just looks nicer. For example (not a real hub) hubpages.com/notarealhub is what I would use as opposed to the recommended hubpages.com/Not-a-Real-Hub which to me looks really ugly. However, I've begun to notice that pretty much...

Has anyone found any of their articles on the first page of the search engines?
by Eugene Brennan 6 years ago
An editor added hyphens to a title of a hub so "Easy to Grow" became "Easy-to-Grow".When I search for Easy to Grow, the hub is on page 3 of search results, but if I include the hyphens, it's midway down page 2.Using hyphens is probably grammatically correct, but most people...

How do hubs get found by search engines with no tags?I am Internet "dumb" so forgive my question. Since HP stripped our hubs of tags, what does google look for? Will this affect traffic?
