Do you feel obligated to reciprocate gifting at Christmas?
Or do you pre-buy general gifts and have them ready
should this situation come up?
I feel obligated.
I agree ,I feel obligated plus I always buy general gifts-just in case.
Well, what did you get me cuz I got you sumpthin real perty! Actually, I do feel obligated AND I do buy stuff on sale or whatever after the holidays as general gifts to have on hand.
Yeah, I would say that you do need to give them something, even if it is small. I do not think it is the idea of getting something, but rather that they are being thought of etc. I am a big fan of getting cool/neat things when they are on sale and keeping them for house warming gifts etc.
yes.
i also buy 'general' gifts for unexpected guests. not out of any sense of obligation necessarily - it's just being nice.
I love you Cosette and will be dropping by ps- I love chocolate
well, your genuinely genorous. i bet you dont expect anything back either? i soooooo wish more people were like you
Ya, I'm not like that. I want something in return
I'm having a beer in hopes that I will sleep and have a dream to report to Lyrics forum tomorrow.
dude, ive had 6 still awake.....going to get 7 now....
STOP FOLLOWING ME!!!!! kidding, im getting confused
I never buy people shit, and they never buy me shit. That's the way it is.
But what is super awkward is when YOU buy someone a gift and they don't reciprocate. There's like an odd silence as you are handing the bag/box over....almost like you want to yank it back.
Yes. :s It would be awkward and I'd feel inconsiderate not to return the gesture.
It really depends on who it is and why they got me something. I do keep general gifts on hand, some of them are even ready to give, with the addition of a card.
Sometimes, I am the one giving something out of the blue, just because. I don't like when people feel obligated to give something back. That ruins the fun of the surprise.
I see gifts as just 'stuff'... I would much rather give of myself and I REALLY value it if someone gives of themselves to me. Time is precious, so when it is given that is the greatest gift of all x
I give without expecting anything in return. But if someone buys me a gift then I make sure that I buy something for them just to show my appreciation that they were thinking of me.
"Give because you receive" gifts. If that's not exchanging of gifts the young so enjoy this season, it might fall under "obligation" to an adult.
There is always that child in us to expect something, right? To an adult's point of view, gifts are just tokens of a long-enduring friendship we want to keep for life. Omit the gift and someone says, "has he forgotten"?

I try to respond to everybody who takes the time to comment on my hubs. I really appreciate that they cared enough to do that. But when people want to get into some kind of on and on and on debate I start to resent that. I feel like, hey, I stated my position in my hub---I took the time to write an...

Why do you celebrate Christmas?I have noticed that the stores are stocking up on Christmas goodies. Tis the season to start seriously thinking about money, and debt and presents right? Do you feel obligated to give gifts? Are you stressing or celebrating around Christmas time?

Belief in "God"... such a broad topic, right? I have questions about religion and beliefs though, and I'm going to ask here.OK. So, I believe in a god or gods. I also believe that he/she/they are good, loving, moral, and protective. I've never in my life believed in a "Satan" or...
