What to do about "Bad" comments?

I had a person leave a comment on one of my hubs that I did not want on there.  I did delete it, but I felt bad doing so.  I think this person was trying to be helpful, but it went against what I was trying to accomplish with that hub.  Selling the product shown in that hub.    This person gave a link to a sight that had the "same" product for "less".  Was it wrong of me to get rid of that comment?

No, I don't think you were wrong.  I'm sure you make comments on other people's blogs for self-promotion purposes from time to time (so do I), but to do it by damaging the article or blog it's posted on - that's not acceptable.

Your hubs belong to you ... so you have every right to police them. Also, I consider it really shady to try to turn a buck on another person's article by posting a link that undercuts them.

I never allow comments with links in them unless they *add* something to the hub without taking away anything from it. I banish very few ... typically people trying to sell UGG boots. smile

No, it was wrong of them to try to advertise on your hub. The whole point of hubs that are trying to sell something is to get people to order from the site you are promoting. I would have done the same thing. So don't feel bad about it.

Thank you.  If people leave a comment, I like to let it stay, just because they took the time to read my hub and leave a comment, but that one ticked me off.

Marisa Wright, your right.  That was a bit of a stab in the back, by them, to do such a thing.  But unlike you, I would never stoop so low as to self promotion on anothers hub.  (snicker. snicker)  Man, I lie like a rug...  Thanks for the feed back.

Actually, I don't post links on other people's Hubs.  The most I'll do is say "I wrote a Hub on this same subject".

Unless, of course,it's a spammy Hub written by a Hubber who's obviously been inactive for a while. Then I feel no shame smile

That is good to know.  I'll keep my eye out for the  "I wrote a Hub on this same subject".  Matter of fact, I think I may have seen that before.  Hmmm...

    you did well

many hubbers use bad comment to discourage fellow hubbers

no stress one of those things.lets just be focus.

Any comments made to detract or damage or devalue my hubs are instantly deleted. SPAM is marked as spam. I don't report people for leaving links, I just don't allow outsiders of HubPages.
