To those who love the new health care bill - are you SERIOUS???

   It seems there are only 4 major points to this new health care bill, at least according to those who support it.  We all know this bill is so much more than just the 4 selling points I'm about to mention (thank you MikeLV - love your posts on this topic). 
   
   According to my Senator, Debbie Stabenow (D. Michigan) who gleefully expressed like a child opening a much desired Christmas present: (and I paraphrase)"although we start paying for it now we won't see benefits until 2014 - except in these instances which start now:  Small businesses will get a tax break, children can stay on their parent's plans to the age of 26 (is it to or through ???), you can't be dropped from insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions, and the elderly will receive prescription drug benefits." 
   
   Here's how I see it regarding these 4 selling points: 
   
   1) Will the small businesses pass on their benefit to their employees?  Perhaps.  But I doubt it.  Not when they're struggling.
   
   2) How will families benefit from children staying on their parent's plans?  So many parents are relieved when their adult children reach the age to be removed from their plan, with the expectation they will receive health benefits from their own employer.  They are relieved because in many cases their out of pocket premium is greatly reduced, going from a "family" plan to a "single plus one" plan (employee and spouse).  I used to administer the insurance plans for a small company, so I know this is fact.  But now, the parents may not have the luxury of reducing their out-of-pocket cost for 8 to 4 more years.  How does that help?  And, how will this help those parents who have small children ? How will this help the middle-aged people with children over the age of 26?
   
   3) Not dropping someone due to a pre-existing condition is a great benefit for everyone.  My husband has cancer and we constantly had the fear he would be dropped because he has cost the insurance company nearly a million dollars in one year.  We've been lucky.  I know some have not.  And you never know when you may get a serious illness.  So this is a good selling point that needed to be addressed.
   
   4) Many Elderly individuals do need assistance with their drugs.  It is amazing how expensive they are.  However, there is aid available.  If not by family members then through their State (granted, I have not done research on this aspect, but programs are available).  My own mother needs assistance with her prescription drugs.  I help her, Michigan helps her.  I am already paying the state via taxes.  Why should I pay more ?  I have no problem making donations to charitable organizations to assist others in her situation.  I remember when my husband contracted a cancer-related infection.  The antibiotic cost over $1800.00 (us dollars).  We paid $40.00 because we have coverage.  If you ask me, health reform should do something about the excessive cost of prescription drugs, not tax us more to pay for the over-priced medications.
   
   These are my views.  I have been reading the health care bill as I have time, and there are many things I have not yet read.  But the items I mentioned above are those which are mostly discussed.  hence, selling points.

      I think that's the most concise rational view I have read. That's presuming the parts you hate are factually true, but I have read your posts and I expect you are not upset about illegal aliens, who are not covered)or elective abortion,  which is not allowed.
      
      YOu can't make an omlette without breaking eggs. This legislation has more faults than California. Plenty to dislike. But if we only passed perfect laws, nothing would get done. If I was a Congresscritter, I would have to base my vote on whether the benefits significantly outweigh the defects when all the debate and amendments are finally settled.
      
      Eventually, very liberal democrats and very conservative democrats voted FOR the bill because even with warts, it was worth passing. Others disagree - but the discussion should be about what's real and true - not talking points designed to deceive.

            SabOh - When the Supreme Court says that the constitution was  violated, I will take notice. Right now it's just crybabies throwing a tantrum.

               So, if the court rules that the bill, or parts of it, are unconstitutional then your juvenile insult there will suddenly never have existed? Maybe YOU should wait to see how it plays out and prepare some more clever insults for that eventuality.

   The part that I do not care for is supporting our children with health care until they are 26 , for Goodness sake they are grown and adults. They might as well change the voting age to 26 if so many of us have to provide them healthcare, just my opinion.

      That part I kind-of-like, my son looks like he'll be going to graduate school so to keep him on the insurance would help. If he decides to go to work it should be his baby though!
