What is a Scavenger Hunt, and how can it be used to spice up your next party?

Scavenger hunts can be fun, and can create a fun and interesting theme for your next party!  Have you ever taken part in a scavenger hunt? Can you share some thoughts to make a scavenger hunt fun? I plan to see if I can talk my husband into creating a party themed around a game night we have. I will let you know how it turns out.

I love scavenger hunts and have used them as a team building exercise in work settings and in college courses.  They can be simple and yet focused on a specific theme. It is fun to annnouce it on your invites and tell them to bring something to add to the hunt.  You can then use it as a treasure item.  Taking pictures of unique items around the home or place also makes it interesting.  Guests then try to find the items, using the pictures as a guide.  Some ideas are: part of a wall hanging, crown molding, rug pattern, handle of a special pitcher that is displayed, etc.  Sounds like you two are awesome hosts!

We had a Scavenger hunt at work once when it was our departments summer outing. We began at our company and were given clues which finally made us end up at our location for the outing. It had been kept a secret. One of the clues took us to a local sports club where there we french fries waiting with containers of ketchup, mustard and mayo we could not get the next clue until all the condiments had been eaten,

A scavenger hunt is when a group(s) of people is given a list of things to find.  They then have to go find those things and the first person/group gets back with everything, they are the winner.  Sometimes it is a clue given to get to another clue which leads to another clue, etc. to get to a "prize" or a destination and the first one there is the winner.

I have taken part in quite a few Scavenger Hunts, the best one I did was with my children and friends, they had to find treasure with a map I made. I put the paper in water and vanilla and put it in the oven for a few minutes. It made it look like a pirates map. On the map were different markings. Two groups both got the same maps but each marking only had one treasure. After finding all of the treasure the one who had the most got to pick something out of the treasure box that was sitting in the house (the game was all out doors and everyone wore and eye patch) Of course everyone got to get something from the treasure box, after all it was all for fun and that we certainly had that.
