Switzerland's highest court has banned tournaments of the high-stakes poker game Texas hold 'em outside casinos.
My speculation: Casinos most likely pay taxes on profit, maybe even turnover, private tournaments means no or less Government regulation.
Last time I finished in the money in a Las Vegas tourney the Tax Man was waiting at the payout desk and took 40%.
Mark, don't you know that the Democrats think you need to pay your fair share? Don't be complaining about taxes or you'll be labeled a traitor by Ralph and Doug. You know we need more revenue, not less spending, so ante up your winnings and be a patriot! TIC!
That is not banning the game - it is making sure the Tax Man gets his cut by not allowing gambling outside of licensed premises.
More appropriately the question should be - How much Government Inc interference are we going to accept before we have rioting in the streets?
LOL, for some reason the first image that leaped into my mind was a whole bunch of rioters dancing down the street dressed like Lady Gaga.
I wanna hold em' like they do in Texas plays
Fold em' let em' hit me raise it baby stay with me...
Mark - I would say you are on the money in this one - Tax take - thats about right I would say
To answer the question, no. Poker is a game of skill and people should be allowed to benefit from their skills. People who have addictive personalities are going find other ways to be destructive to themselves. Although, only allowing poker only at casinos sounds more like a revenue issue rather than a statement about the Switzerland's ethical views towards poker.
"Texas Hold 'em - should it be banned?"
Yes. Or maybe it should be left alone and ban scotch instead. All I know is that the two are a bad combination.
No, it shouldn't. And it really bothers me the US banned online poker but lets you bet online for horse races because some senator's state has a race track.
i live in last vegas and the only poker game there is f-ing texas hold'em, it's the only poker game here, it sucks so i can't play unless it's video poker machine, i used to play real poker and never bluffed and did well, all this crap game is bluffing, it must be banned
Like I've said before, it's the only poker game there is in the craphole of a town and there is no choice to play other poker game and they think your stupid if you don't play texas hold'em personally I would take my chances with the saw reverse bear trap than play texas hold'em or russian roulette with 3 bullets
I do not see why it needs to be banned. Texas Hold-em is one of the fastest growing games worldwide and helps to make money for local community's. It would be unfair to say why the country is banning it , but a lot of times people use information that they have not studies and make decisions from there.
i have no problem with gaming, my issue has been with the idea that if you want to play poker that is not the idiotic texas hold'em, play video poker or don't play poker, what choices, yeah i live in the crap hole last sucking vegas, and they think i 'm crazy because i want more choices here so am i wrong?
Don't be daft.
Why not ban all forms of gambling? You can't just single one thing out as bad can you?
Most of the bans in this world are because stupid people can't control themselves.
I think trying to ban even just one type of poker is a little crazy. Now does this mean ban all poker? NO. Why not permit the members of your society to gamble as they please? All gambling is the same and involved wit and responsibility on part of the consumer.
Britain understands that the gambling market is probably the second biggest growing market next to the porn industry and as such encourages the industry to grow.
Poker is played everywhere along with a bookies on every street corner and casinos going up right, left and centre.
Hold'em is extremely popular over here. You have to move with the times.
Poker should not be banned, plus - it's already illegal to bet or gamble under the age of 21 if I'm not mistaken. And plus, how the heck is the government supposed to regulate that??? I personally don't want the government to be making that many choices in my life. If someone wants to play a card game, then let them play - its not hurting anyone
It should be legalized and taxed. Really sad for people who make a living playing poker online in America.
Regulated? maybe. It's really hard to say anything should be banned unless it is proven to be a danger to society.

He was caught gambling. He has been permanently banned from baseball including the Hall of Fame. Is this a fair punishment? Are there other players who have committed worse crimes who are not banned from the game or the Hall of Fame? Should they be banned?

I have read other posts that claim that hubpages does not permit hubs on gambling. Does that also include the forums? My question really isn't about gambling, it is about casino's in general. We just had a new one open here in Michigan, and the attendance has been so incredible that they actually...
