   How do you feel after waking up from general anesthesia?
   
   I will leave out the details as to why I had general anesthesia but I have to admit I felt terrible afterwards.  My stomach was a mess for almost a full 24 hours and I only wanted to eat soup and crackers.
   
   If you have experienced the joy of general anesthesia how do you feel afterwards?

   Drowsy, no baring and lack of appetite.  I feel like my body have a few second respond time and everything is moving in slow motion.

   Awful. I get so hyper and can't relax, can't sleep, can't eat. It's why I will never have elective surgery

   I personally have never had general anesthesia, sorry!  But my mother has, several times, for various things, and she's always a wreck for the entire day afterwards.  She's exhausted, nauseous, and out of it, with a foggy brain.  So she at least knows what you've gone through.  Sorry you had such a bad time with it and hopefully you'll not have to undergo that anytime soon!

   Unfortunately I have had many surgeries. Fortunately I have never had negative responses afterwards. As a matter of fact I rather enjoyed the few hours immediately afterwards when I could just lay around and doze or listen to others talking. My last surgery was replacement of a knee, and they let me loaf for a few hours before insisting that I get up and stand up on it.  My stomach has never bothered me, I didn't feel all foggy. I just woke up like I had been sleeping and was ready to face the world. I know I may just be one of the lucky few; I thought for the longest time that everyone felt like I did afterwards, but some are not so happy and don't feel as well as I do.

   Groggy and a little like I'm still in a dream. I've had general anesthesia a couple times, but one time I wasn't coming out of it. The assistant had to mix some cocktail and inject me to get me to wake up. I think they said it was a possilbe allergic reaction to part of the anesthesia ingredients.

   I only had it a few times and I felt drowsy. Everyone is different though. You are probably more sensitive to it or you picked up a stomach bug from the hospital, they are very very dirty places.

   General anesthesia makes me feel groggy and thirsty. Unfortunately, the slightest amount of liquid brings on relentless nausea and vomiting!  I have learned to ask my doctor for a motion-sickness patch. It really helps!

   I felt very lethargic and drugged.  You feel very vulnerable because you know you can't get up and go home and are sort of at the mercy of the medical staff.  It is a very helpless feeling.  One nurse told me that anesthesia can stay in the fatty tissues for up to 6 months.  True?  I don't know for sure--but I hate surgery.  Luckily I have never had nausea afterward. 
   
   Having had a a very brief episode of surgical awareness (being aware of the pain of surgery but paralyzed by the drugs and unable to move) I am very grateful for anything anesthesia has to offer.

    It was absolutely dreadful, I felt sick, wanted to throw up and my mind was so confused that at one point occurred to me I would be like that forever. It seemed I was under the influence of some nasty stuff. Only after a good sleep and a day had gone by did I feel alright again. Just the thought of going through that again, makes me run like hell.

    Unfortunately, I have had seven surgical procedures in the past 12 years. When I wake up from anesthesia, I am relatively alert when I wake up. In one case, where I had almost gone into a coma before the surgery could begin, they kept me rather sedated for several days. I only remember bits and pieces of those days and that was 12 years ago. For all the other surgeries, I am usually alert and am usually itching. It seems almost every anesthetic causes me to itch. I forewarn the doctors and they usually end up giving me an injection of an antihistamine and that stops the itching.
    
    Also, I will normally develop a headache, not a bad one, something that 2 Tylenol would handle, but you cannot get that because you are getting the heavy duty pain medicine because of the incision. My wife is aware of this and will have some in her purse and will always check with the nurse or the doctor just to be safe. My best advice is to avoid surgery, but that is not always possible or prudent.
