My step mom had trouble with this when she first moved to Hollywood. She, like many actresses, obsessed over her weight. I believe exercise even walking makes a difference . Also eating all natural . Stick to fruit , vegetable , rice , oatmeal, and grilled fish or chicken . Avoid anything processed . Drink lots of water and green tea . good luck
I agree with Yaknowwhat. I am a runner/martial artist and a vegetarian. Consistent exercise and a good diet is the best way to loose weight in a healthy way.

I think the answer really depends on what you mean by fast. If you mean how much weight can you lose in a month, I believe you can safely lose 8 pounds in a month by ensuring that you are eating enough of the right foods (a winning combo of protein, carbs and good fats at every meal) and achieving a daily caloric deficit of 1000 calories.
Just get active and don't eat simple sugars. You know that vegetables are good for you and snickers are not. Always run and eat lots of fiber and protein and water, water, water. Don't think of it as a new lifestyle. Look at it as something you have to do to survive in this cold, dog eat dog world. Not saying this matches your circumstances but it's a great mindset to be in.
