What do you think about the new health care bill?
I am a retired RN, ex wife of a doctor and have seen health care from the inside as you have, albeit from different perspectives. I'm not a fan of for profit medical systems.
I believe the new health care bill does not go far enough. The highest priority in the American health-care system is profits and not the health of the masses.
Data shows that about 40 to 50 million cannot afford or have access to this system. Every year 45,000 die because of this.
The current system is the biggest cause of financial problems including personal bankruptcies. About 75% of these have health insurance. What is the point of having health insurance when there is no financial protection while one is sick?
This health care system has created many millionaires on the back of the sick.
The best situation for America is the public option. However, the health care lobby is so strong that this is not likely to happen. As one who have lived and received health care outside the US, I found health services under public option was good both in quality and cost. Everyone is covered and health bills are either pocket change or none, even after being in hospital for surgery for 2 weeks. The masses there are more healthier than those in the US.
Therefore it easy to understand why the World Health Organization has ranked US as low as 37 among other nations.
I am completely opposed to for profit health care. It is not right, plain and simple.
If I were in charge, things would be different. Health care would be considered a right and access to health care would be guaranteed. Call me a socialist, but in this area, maybe I am.
The health care bill leaves alot to be desired and in my opinion, did not go far enough to limit the profits of health insurers and pharmaceutical companies. I do not, however, feel that the bill should be repealed. I believe it should be improved and should be fully implemented sooner than the phase-in is scheduled for.
I know that we a free enterprise friendly country, but health care should not be a part of it. The Cleveland Clinic is one of the finest health care providers and teachers in the country. Their method of providing services, paying medical professionals, etc. is clearly a workable model for the future.
We are the only advanced country in the world that does not have guaranteed health care. If other countries can do it, we can do it better.

Thought some of you right wingers might be interested in seeing what some ACTUAL socialists think of the health care bill. Not that I expect any of you to admit that Obama isn't socialist by any definition of the word and is, in fact, center-right, but hey, anything is worth a shot, right? In fact,...

The bill contains 500 billion in NEW taxes. These taxes will affect everyone, not just the rich. In fact if you need a medical device, you will now have to pay a tax for it! Yes a tax on things like defibrillators, wheel chairs, fillings, and stents, so your hospital bills will now be higher! Here...

I thought this article was interesting, especially since it appeared in the NYT. According to this guru, costs will INCREASE, not decrease. This is the same guru that democrats hailed as wonderful when he challenged Bush. Don't worry, though, costs will increase by only a few billion, and what's a...

I just wanted to clear up the garbage that is being put out about people being forced to buy a government health care plan. I know this seems to be the center of controversy over health care. For the record, no one is being forced to buy health care. What you aren't looking for is the...
