What is a virgin? How did you first handle this questions with your young children?
Thanks to a movie, my now 9 year old girl asked me this. I am still stumped. I put a pin in it now, but I know that it will come up again so I turn to you for ideas. How did you do it? What ideas can you give me?
Yikes. I know this one is coming at me any day now, so I'll take a shot. At 9 (8 &6 in my case) I am not going into sex ed., so I would probably say 'a virgin is a woman who has never had a baby.' If she isn't too inquisitive, it might be left at that! If not, maybe pull out the 'inappropriate for her age' card. Tough one, but maybe more for you than her? Anyway, good luck. Btw, what was the movie?
Hey Mos, thanks for the insight. The movie was Hocus Pocus. I loved it when I was little, shared it with her this year. It was still awesome.
The witches curse needed a virgin...
Well I remember asking my mom what a virgin was, thanks to my favorite song at the time (yes, in the 80s), "Like a Virgin" by Madonna. She said that it meant the people had never kissed before. At the time that completely satisfied my curiosity, although I've wondered if it was good to "lie" to me about it. I'm not a parent and have no idea what I'd do; you want to keep them kids, but you also don't want to lie to them!
Or you might tell her that it is a lady that has never had sex. They know more than we think. My daughter did.
