One mistake I can think of right now is that eating junk is the biggest mistake we commit in our childhood. Apart from that, smoking or taking alcohol in large quantities also affects our health.

Drinking too much alcohol, smoking, eating unhealthy food, occasional sex, taking their parents' care for granted...

Eating too much of fast food, with a lot of bad fats and high salt content

Now a days, kids have computers, video game consoles and cell phones. They tend to be too sedentary. They do not go out and play like we used to as kids.

Some kids and adolescents have a problem with body image and are either bulemic or anorexic.

Children now a days are overweight or obese, and some of them have even developed Childhood Obesity. I have written hubs on both of these if you want to check them out.

I think children/adolescents like to experiment with drugs such as tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs.  Those can have serious complications later in life if they continue to use them.

    Great question.

Not looking  after their hearing. I spent nearly 20 years going to loud clubs and only relatively recently started using hearing protection. I don't know how much damage I've done to my hearing, but it won't be as good as it could be if I hadn't done that.

    1.  thinking they will live forever and what they do now, does not have consequences on their bodies.

    2.  smoking and alcohol

    3.  too much sunburn (I was guilty of this and 45 years later paying the price)

    4.  soda pop, sugar and caffeine - not good.

    5.  not having a healthy attitude and interest in exercise and care for their bodies.  When young you feel like you have forever for that serious stuff - but you should start young.

Drinking  -- especially if addictive personalities exists in their family .. this is known to be heridity

Smoking -- we all know that it causes lung cancer and other health issues.

Drugs -- Once again the addictive personality issue and unfortunately has caused many deaths.

Fried Foods - leads to heart disease, high cholesterol and obesity.

Gangs - violence and death of those in the gangs and innocent bystanders.

I think that over exercising or under exercising and eating a lot of junk food would be the first two. Smoking, drinking, or using illegal drugs and not being mindful of the need for sleep would be the second two. Lastly, I'd say that internalizing problems and not asking for help would be another health mistake that many people make when they're young.

I believe mental health is the number one problem.
People should not imbibe in drugs until their brains have stopped forming. After that have at it. Growing brains can be permanently changed by any drug.
Taking physical intimacy too lightly and too early.
Not understanding how amazing they are as individuals.
    Not questioning the status quo
They need to learn that their life is their own and base decisions off of what is best for them not how to rebel or obey. Think and live.

Well I think if you have a handle on number one it cover's the rest of the mistakes. If you realize at a young age that you're not immortal then you will watch your health and be wiser in your choices.

Lack of exercise, eating too much meat, not eating enough vegetables, eating processed foods, and eating way too much sugar.

Abusing their bodies... abusing their minds... believing that they can only find their own values in the eyes of others, without realizing that it has to starts with them...living in a self-destruct mode, that is very hard to break....they are often easily manipulated and will follow someone who will repeat to them, how great they are...

I agree with many of hubbers on the big issues such as drinking, smoking and sex.  I also would list, from my experience, not taking good advice from parents and family; thinking you are invincible and immortal so that you make embarassing mistakes; and not applying yourself well in school.  If we could only go back and correct our mistakes, apologize to our parents and say no to the bad habits.

The biggest mistake that young people are doing to their health, I think, is the use of substances that are harmful to the body. Visit http://bestmedicalcoding.com/medical-co … ification/ for more info.
