Does anyone know a good treatment for hives? My daughter had them for many weeks now.
My daughter has had hives for several weeks. They are extremly itchy and uncomfortable. Been to the ER once, her regular doctor 2 or 3 times plus a walk-in medical place a couple of times. Went to see a dermatologist and she said the hives go away on there own, and the only thing she said was to keep taking Benadryl. It helps as long as she doesn't have to go to school, because it knocks her out. She is only sixteen. Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hives usually do subside by itself after a couple of weeks, I would look for something that might be perpetuating the hives. Hives are caused by allergies, so maybe its something she's eating, laundry detergent or soap, insect bites, or even make-up (if she wears any).
I agree with Alpha, I would try to figure out what is causing it. Recently I went to my dermatologist because I had hives and he said "it happens." No explanation as to what may have been the cause. I even told him when I left town for a week, it went away. It seems too many doctors are on a schedule and not concerned with figuring out a cause; they prefer covering it up with drugs. At any rate, it turns out I am allergic to the soap I had recently switched to.
Well, being a very allergic person, and especially as a kid, I have had my share of hives. Other than benadryl and maybe a warm bath with baking soda in it or oatmeal to relieve the itch, I'd say a consult is in order with an allergist to find out what she is allergic to. Know what you are allergic to is key to being able to avoid the allergens
Figure out what she is allergic to and avoid that allergen. This happened to me in my early 20's. I had a soy smoothie at lunch and when i returned to my office, I was covered in hives. I had to avoid soy products for years, even in the most minute amounts. Benadryl always helped, but it just lessens the symptoms for a short time. I wonder if the doc can do some allergy testing? Has your daughter eaten anything new or out of the ordinary that triggered the hives? I hope you figure it out, as it can be uncomfortable and exhausting. Good luck.

Does anyone know if beagles have worse separation than other breeds of dogs?I just went on a walk with my daughter and beagle. Help! Does anyone know where to purchase the hard licorice drops once sold in bulk candy stores? There was some sort of stamp on the top. The candy was shiny black, about 3/4" wide, shaped like a round top pentagon but slightly concave on the bottom. It was not Dutch!

A dermatologist should be able to assist you with your skin issue.
