It depends on what is causing it. Certain medications can cause it like blood pressure meds. Ice cold water can provide relief at times, or a cough drop. You can get a med called Pearls from the doctors that numbs the back of the throat to fight coughing.
This time of year, it is likely and allergy so you might visit with your doctor to determine if that is it.
Thank you for the advice. I will have to try the Pearls. I am familiar with a product called, Chloraseptic throat spray or lozengers. I prefer this mist over the cough drop. It numbs your throat removing the feeling .of the need to cough
It might be dry cough that has to do with the environment; dusty or scorching hot weather etc. Mine took me 2 months to recover and required plenty of fluids and a change in my diet to more greens and less proteins haha.
As the others have said, most of the time a cough is just an allergy, or a reaction to mold in the air. Among the things to try, peppermint is very effective in the treatment of allergic cough. Treating the underlying condition may be a better alternative. Bio allers carries an extensive product line of homeopathic remedies. One type is a pill that you dissolve in your mouth, the others are drops under the tongue. 15 drops a day until you no longer react to the offending allergen. Very effective, doesn't happen over night. Patience is key when working with natural substances.http://www.amazon.com/Bioallers-Mold-Yeast-Dust-1-Ounce/dp/B00016WWRC/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1366063719&sr=1-1&keywords=bioallers
