I don't think there's a way to stop ringing after it's permanent. Prevention is the best thing to do. Wear earplugs around loud sounds. Don't turn the volume all the way up when you use headphones. Y'know, the basic ear care stuff.

I had this and it was two years before I found out I had a serious problem with my neck that an MRI showed. It won't be fixed without surgery and I am weighing my risks there but I was given Nortriptyline to take at bedtime and I rarely have anymore trouble with my ears. I think the trouble is a nerve problem leading from the pinched nerve in my neck leading to the ear and other areas. Hope you get help; I know it can be maddening; whatever is causing it.

If it is temporary, you can try using ear drops to remove wax.

If it lasts a while longer then you should see a doctor because you may have a serious build-up of earwax; need a dentist; a neurologist or it may be change of environment... Start with your doctor, he will be able to tell you more.
