   Why are pharmaceutical companies working on cure rather than prevention for Cancer?

   I think because prevention can't be done by drugs only by natural products and it is not possible to patent them and so it is not possible get billions from them.

   Because research has yet to reveal a prevention method that is pharmaceutical.  The known vectors are pollution, diet, disease and lifestyle based.

   there is a fair amount known about prevention. for example, risk of kidney cancer is less in non-smokers. there are treatments that help reduce smoking, which causes most lung cancer and many other cancers. then there's the cervical cancer vaccine. there's also evista and tamoxifen for those at high risk for breast cancer. colonoscopy and removal of polyps prevents colon cancer. treatment of h. pylori infection prevents stomach cancer. anyone who says prevention is not being worked on is just unaware. obesity is also a risk factor fro breast, prostate, uterine and colon cancers. they are working on a drug called lorcaserin to fight obesity. so much for the greed conspiracy theories.

      oh, and a drug company poured tons of money into research on finasteride as a prevention for prostate cancer. it didn't pan out, but they tried.
      
      they're always coming up with a better sunscreen to prevent skin cancer.

         What makes you think medical science is trying to cure or prevent cancer or any other dis-ease. The sun does not cause skin cancer. That's as ridiculous as saying "the tonsil is poisoning the whole body."

   I think that some pharmaceutical companies work on a cure for cancer rather than prevention because there are so many different causes of cancer. Some people are genetically predisposed to getting certain cancers, other cancers are the result of exposure to things such as paint, car exhaust on the daily commute, chemicals in our food, lotions, shampoos/conditioners, cosmetics, etc. Still other cancers are caused by excessive sun exposure, smoking (& secondhand), and other lifestyle choices. This is just the tip of the iceberg but with so many causes, some preventable, some not, this is probably why they want to find a cure instead of seeking to prevent.

   What exactly are you expecting pharmaceutical companies to come out with? Besides "more drugs?" Are you aware of what the term "pharmaceutical" means?
   
   Even if they did come out with cancer prevention drugs I bet you'd immediately start complaining that oh great, BIG MEDI$INE is trying to sell us another pill to take for the rest of our lives.

   Pharmaceutical companies are always working on ways to cure cancer because it is not a disease that can be prevented for many reasons. For example, some cancers have a genetic origin  while some are caused by exposures to chemicals, viruses and various forms of radiations. Generally, most higher animals such as mammals develop cancer cells literally everyday but the immune system does a very good job of stopping them. However, some of these cells managed to invade the immune system and eventually become life threatening. So currently, this is the only thing pharmaceutical companies can do is to develop drugs to stop the progression of the cancerous growth. They cannot prevent cancer since they cannot be seen until normal cells show signs of mutation.
