Do you celebrate Halloween for religious reasons or do you celebrate it just for fun?
Do you celebrate Halloween simply because you like dressing up, spending time with your kids, and having fun, or do you celebrate it because you consider it a religious holiday? By religious I mean something along the lines of the Neopagan Samhain or the Christian All Hallows Eve.
Please don't get into any crazy arguments because of this question!
LOL. I'm glad you made that last comment. I have little hope of that not happening however. My family and I are huge horror movie fans and love celebrating halloween just for the fun that comes with it in that aspect. we love the 24-7 horror movies playing on tv for 30 days and the halloween haunts at 6 flags and universal studios. we also love dressing up and handing out candy and some years if time permits, making our own small haunted house with strobe lights and whatever. Its just a fun time of year.
Thank you! I love the fun atmosphere and the movie marathons too.
I've always loved Halloween. It really is an odd mishmash of different traditions, which makes sense, since it occurs at a time that historically is so important (the harvest).
Growing up I had no idea it even had a religious connection. To me it was just a fun time to put on costumes and get candy, which seems to be how most take it.
In college (University of Detroit-Mercy) they used to have an annual event (Safety Street I think they called it) where the different clubs and organizations would build facades (houses and castles and such) and invite kids to come trick-or-treating, since a lot of them couldn't do it in their own neighborhoods. It was a lot of fun and probably my fondest memory of my whole time in college.
My family and I celebrate Halloween for both fun and religious festivities. We begin the day rejoicing for the season. Then I frolic all day and early through the evening while we distribute my goodies to the trick or treat visitors. For the family and friends, I have a photo booth setup so they can capture memories. At the end of the trick or treat festivities, we then begin somber observance of All Souls Day and All Saints Day. For this effort, we place photos of our lost family members and friends over the fireplace and begin to speak about their great lives and how they contributed unique relationships leading to advancement of our family. At midnight, we then all hold hands and bless the Lord for providing us with the wisdom to gain those things that permit us to continue to live a righteous life. Before I hit the sack, I then light one candle for each family member and friend so that they can see and feel the warm glow that we still carry for them. During this time, the youth each praise the Lord for their lives. Our day is then over and the new year begins filled with inspiration and perseverance to advance further into the next respectful celebration. Then on Nov 3rd, we begin to eat all the goodies that were left from the fun night.
While some Pagans do see this holiday as a solemn one and some Christians celebrate All Hallows Eve, many people love Halloween for the ghoulish fantasies they can create. At Halloween, many people cast aside their 9-5, conventional persona and let their DARK SIDE come out. Yes, at Halloween, many people get their DARK FREAK on.
Halloween is such a fantastic holiday with a dark twist. After all, Halloween is a Scorpionic holiday. Scorpio is the dark sign of the zodiac. In fact, Scorpio is the darkest sign of the zodiac and what is more befitting holiday than Halloween. Halloween is the time of year when one can be a spooky as possible. After, Halloween was considered to be the veil between the this world and the next by the ancient Druids.
Halloween is celebrated by parties and parades. Almost every Halloween in New York's Greenwich Village, there is a costume parade. There are so many devishly delicious and ghoulish ways to celebrate this magnificent holidy. One can have a Halloween themed party with some lovely horror movies such as BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, HORROR HOTEL, and the perennial horror classic BLACK SUNDAY. For those more musically inclined, I suggest purchasing some cds by Nox Arcana and Midnight Syndicate-their horror themed music is just to .........DIE for!
I have a horror movie marathon from October 23 to November 21. During that month long period which includes Halloween. I have a horrorfest, I look at all my favorite horror movies, documentaries, and television shows on my portal dvd. Halloween is the time to get your HORROR FREAK ON.......Temporarily let go of your vanilla personality and let out and experience your inner DARK GOD/GODDESS! Have fun ............
I meant portable dvd player, not portal dvd. Sorry for this grievous error.

Can someone please explain why Halloween is such a popular holiday?I TOTALLY don't understand the fascination with Halloween. I never particularly liked the holiday even as a child, I don't like skeletons or thinking about death. (My husband found coffin candy boxes at the .99 cent store and...

I think every parent has thought about this. What issues did you consider and what was your final decision?

Please don't tell me it is for the children's sake. Let me emphasize... Christians not others, but Christians.

How do you or your family celebrate Halloween, besides wearing costumes or going trick-or-treating?Do you celebrate Halloween in a different or an additional way? If so, what do you do?

Halloween is fast approaching only a couple of weeks away. Do you get trick or treaters in your neck of the woods. I don't, but, even though diabetic it doesn't stop me from getting candy to hand out . . . just in case. I got 2 bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and one of Kit Kat candy bars to...
