Winter Wonders - haiku

Updated on June 19, 2013

Gray skies look heavy
Flakes of white begin to swirl
Light as frosty air

Garden blooming with
vibrant colors full of life
now encased in ice

Carrot nose, coal eyes
Snowman’s smile never fearing
warmth of coming sun

Branches are bare, yet
tree is very much alive
awaiting spring sun

Imagination
fills empty rooms with friends on
snow day home from school

Cold engine sputters
Snow laden trees guarding roads
Cocoa at grandma’s!

      Hi ROLLY!!!

A super long winter is right! Whenever I get discouraged with winter weather I try to look around and find something good about it, or pull up a good memory. There are so many wonderful things about each season....

WISHING YOU SPUNG WEARTHER SOON! (and me too!)

Hi Dana... love this poem, gives a new prospective on what has been a super long winter here this year. So long as a matter of fact I forgot to look at the beauty and wonder of it all... Thanks for the reminder...

      Hugs from the North

All are very fine "hachoos," but I like the one about the fearless snowman best of them all, like "who's afraid of the big, bad sun?"

      Gus :-)))

I love your reflection of the branches being bare but very much alive. So true of how what we view may appear one way, but has yet a deeper meaning. Well done!

Dana, I come from the tropics..but the pictures of the temperate zone from your Haiku is so enticing! Just like the cup of cocoa at Grandma's! Your personal experiences are so well knit into these haiku poems- and the pictures glint from among the snow. "Carrot nose, coal eyes/

Snowman’s smile never fearing/warmth of coming sun"..I see a little girls at play and little beads of moisture on the glistening bald pate of the snowman, where the sun hits. :)

      Up and up and up...

      Dana,

Your haiku collection reminds of the years I spent living on the east coast of the United States. I especially like your snowman haiku. I was hoping it would stay cold, so he would survive for a longer period of time.

Dana, I'm glad I happened across this while browsing Facebook. Many people in NE Ohio cry and complain about the winter and snow but I actually enjoy it :) I love watching the flakes fall and making snowmen and drinking hot chocolate at Grandma's. You hit on all my favorite things about winter.

GUS!!! - Ah yes. The plight of the poor snowmen. Built up only to be stranded in place until the sun melts them away. Might as well accept your fate and enjoy the time you've got, right??

so great to hear from you. it is always such a treat! :)

Good show ! I truly enjoyed them all, but the favorite for me was that snowman who didn't give much of a fig for the coming son. My kind of snowman for certain.
