Should bullets have a period at the end?

I was wondering if a bulleted list should have a full stop/period.

Depends on the starting sentence or phrase but generally the last on the list should have a full stop or period.
    e.g.
    Places to visit
    • Eiffel Tower
    • Arc de Triomphe
    • the Louvre
    or
    It is important to
    • consider the timetable,
    • look at your options,
    • complete the form.
    Hope this helps!

The answer to the question depends on which style manual you use. Sometimes, the manuals differ in their answer to this lifelong question.

Generally, they tend to agree that if your bullet point completes the main thought, then you would put a period after each bullet point.

    EXAMPLE:
I like red because red is:
    - Pretty.
    - Bold.
    - Everywhere.

You would not place a period at the end if your bullet point does not complete a sentence.

    EXAMPLE:
Some things I like about the color red:
    - Pretty
    - Bold
    - Everywhere

These are super short examples used just to make a point. But, the other thing to consider is making sure you use one style or the other in each bulleted paragraph. In other words, do not mix up the styles within a paragraph.

What an intelligent and helpful answer.  I most probably would have followed those rules, but it is nice to see them written so clearly.

MarleneB, thank you very much. I had a problem with bullets. I will have to check all my hubs and see whether the ones I have used are okay.

If each bullet is followed by a complete sentence, there should be periods at the end of each sentence. If it simply a list, you don't need the period.
