How do you stay awake when writing articles/hubs?

Coffee works most times. But I'm not trying to gain a coffee habit.

If you love what you're writing you will stay awake!  I've been finding that hubbing can become very addictive and seeing your finished pages with photos and colour becomes a craving - you want that end result.  When you love your subject matter you will suddenly notice that your clock says 3:00 a.m. and the day job beckons!  If you are feeling really tired then call it a night.  Shut down and look at your hubs through fresh eyes tomorrow.  However, if you are determined to stay awake no matter what, then yes, I agree with the coffee idea or listen to music that makes you smile and tap your feet.

I can relate to the answer MellowDayLondon gave.  I've only been on HubPages for a couple of weeks and have found it habit forming.  My biggest problem is in forcing myself off HubPages, whether reading or writing, so I can make it to work in the morning.  Reading the hubs of others is entertaining and educational.  I find myself totally absorbed.  I've always been a night owl though...

Under most circumstances I cannot fall asleep if I am cold - maybe turning down your thermostat would keep you uncomfortable enough to stay awake.

If you have a trick for falling asleep when your mind is full of ideas and spinning I would be interested in it!

If you don't like coffee, and think of it in terms of being a habit - then you probably won't care for my "sip light beer while writing hubs" method either - but it works okay for me.

I'm definitely a big fan of listening to music and lighting up some candles while I write my Hubs. "Set the mood." Haha. Funny, but true.

I usually am listening to my favorite internet radio station on AOL and then I am eating some doritos, time goes by so fast and the next thing I know its 3 am.

If I am in a good mood and I am enjoying every minute when writing any article / hub I can carry on for hours , staying awake late hours then is not a big deal. Yes , hot cup of coffee or tea and soft music in the background really help.

Divine inspiration for all of my 3 articles which is my 1 hub on hubpages. My 3rd article which I published on May 8, 2011 A.D. is on the 1st page of Google and 1st on the list on May 9, 2011 A.D. I am now batting 1000% in writing excellent articles content in setting the standard for the new Google algorithm. I am now averaging around 100 views daily with my 3 articles which is my 1 hub on hubpages. I have skyrocketed from 5.5 average daily views to 100 daily views with the new Google algorithm. You need to be patient and just write excellent articles/hubs of which I have done with my 3 articles. It feels great to be vindicated with my excellent 3 articles content and seeing my traffic exploding while others are falling fast and hard. You just need to write excellent articles and be patient and the results of it will be automatically shown whether you have written excellent/high quality content articles/hubs like I have done with my 3 articles that is my 1 hub on hubpages.

I write in the morning after a vat of coffee. So long as I get my writing done by 3PM, I won't be tired doing it. After that, I'm SOL.

I've given up on caffeine. I feel more alert all the time now. I actually enjoy hubbing so much that when I feel inspired I could write for hours. Unfortunately I haven't had much time recently so I kind of fell off the wagon on that.
