      I didn't either until a news program brought it to my attention.  I always loved the black characters as much as I loved the white ones.

    It;s hard to answer this question. I think Gone with the wind is set in the war years but often critisised because it is a novel and a film that is about the "white" experience rather than the black experience. I suppose it's only a story set in white America. Nothing more than that and nothing less than that.

    It is racist for our times, but the language used and the way of life was appropriate for the century described in the book....
