Essentially people are led by either God or Satan.  Those led by Satan will  seek revenge by using not-so-clever sophistry to justify it.

Because they believe they will (feel) better.
They want to see the offenders punished or hurt in some way. No one likes to be bullied or taken advantage of. Whether someone goes through the legal channels or physically strikes back their motivation is the same. They don't want to be anyone's doormat.
Instinctively for most of us when we get hit we hit back.
Very few people are going to simply walk away and allow "karma" to avenge them. We've been taught: "You have to stand up to bullies."

Revenge is not taken by everyone, some people take the matters seriously and always they have in their mind to take revenge. While others let it go and forget what happened and remain cool in their life. From my point people should forget from the past what happened and move on ,because revenge is a kind of think which will always be on mind and make your life worse. So better forget it and move on.

The first response people have when we're wronged is "How do I get even"?  Our human nature dictates this response.  Christ came to give people true life, life that comes from God....if we give ourselves to Christ and cooperate with him as he cleanses us, our old nature will eventually be put to death.  Those who've received Christ and submit to his lordship are, in time, cleansed of the desire for revenge.

I think most people who seek revenge on someone who they feel have wronged them, simply do so because it gives them a sense of power over the situation, a sense of entitlement and self worth. Typically, if you feel the need for revenge you're not too confident in yourself. At least not enough to want to rationalize things and say, "hey, i'm going to be the bigger person here."
