How do you feel about poets being required to pay a fee or buy the anthology to be published in it?
There are people that get poets to be part of their anthologies but they require the poets to pay a submissions fee to be published in the book and/or tell them that to be published in the anthology they have to purchase it... What are your thoughts on this...?
They are a rip off, a type of vanity press. They make money being paid by submitters to put their work in print, and they have no serious weight on a writer's resume.
You might as well pay to self-publish.
It's good for a beginning poet to see their poetry in book print. It is not recommended to do it repeatedly but it's okay for one time to do it. It should not be expensive so, go for it. I did it and felt very good about it. It fit in very well.
It's bogus, appealing to ego in order to get the cash from poor poets. The best thing to do is either self-publish or get to be such a poet, publishers will pay you to publish your anthology.
