   I would say it is one of the most important things due to own personal experience.  If you read from a young age or are read to even,  it is something that opens the mind and encourages the imagination.  There is a great deal of evidence linked to education and children who are readers being ahead of their peers in terms of language skills and so on.
   
   
   
   By reading it let's one see different styles that people write in, which can be great inspiration.  Can help one find their niche and writers voice.
   
   
   
   Favourite authors read, when you look into their lives you realise they are not some sentient being but ordinary people like you or I with a great idea.  Many do not see success in their own lifetime, many do not write well until they are older.  It is good to know these things as faith in ones own ability can be hard to come by.
   
   
   
   Above all it is so good to be able to enjoy a book and soak up words,  ideas or simply a great story.  Recommend reading and for reading as a hobby to be shared, encouraged and passed down to children.

   I consider reading as important because it introduces to various styles of writing in presenting your thoughts. You can get ideas and plots from the habit of reading other writers' books and novels. You can see how they are building up stories and learn some good tips in creating your own style of writing.
   
   But, basically, I think that writing is an innate ability and so, people possessing that ability can suddenly start writing good books and succeed in that career without the need for reading others' works. Even then, reading can polish their skills to some extent.

   Tim to my way of thought they are one in the same. One cannot read well unless they can tell a story well themselves. All of my second grade son's reading assignments require writing something about the story he read. Maybe we call that reflective reading comprehension. All of my son's writing assignments require that he tell a story.
   How to tell a story and how to read a story are inseparable. "Site" words (vocabulary and spelling) are paramount as we increase our desire to learn more about words and the wonderful concepts the encompass. And of course reading them and understanding is fully akin to writing them with understanding.
   I think it is the same with speaking and listening. I don't think I have ever heard a good sermon from someone who did not listen well. Certainly a parent who cannot listen is a waste of space.
   And I add another two. Imagination and speaking to oneself is as important as organized activities. If you cannot create with your inner voice you cannot create with you outside voice.
   Perhaps it may be worthwhile to contemplate if reading is self love and writing love of others.

   It's very important. I am learning how to improve my writing here. I don't know how I could do that if I couldn't or wouldn't read what others write here. There are some truly amazing writers here. I don't know any writers who don't read, but I know people who read but don't write. My grammer and punctuation suck so I am working on that now. Please tell me if you think it's important and why or are they equal?

   One of the most important aspects of writing is to know how to convey what one wants to say. Without being a reader - unless taught writing extensively in school - one is unable to punctuate correctly which is the most important part of writing. A lack of correct punctuation will often cause ea misunderstanding of what one intends to convey.

   It is very important. I have read the advice of some famous writers and they all said that to be a good writer, you need to be a good reader. I can not imagine being a writer without reading. I like to read something every day and also write something every day. It does not have to be a lot, but enough to keep the mind sharp.
