It was very interesting to read about your childhood hobby of collecting matchbooks, Umesh. I also did it for a while, and also bubble gum cards (even though I never used bubble gum) I would just buy it for the cards and give the gum away.

    Please read Umesh's article:

Wonderful memories, Umesh. The Matchbox collection looks like an interesting hobby, and I am sure you would have amassed quite a collection in a vast country like India. Thanks for sharing your nostalgia with us.

Thanks, John, for sharing Umesh's article.

Your article made me think of my hobbies as a child. I love doing crafts and still do them now. I remember those times when matches were essential in our homes. It's excellent that already at an early age, design fascinated you. I wonder if you are engaged in that these days. Thank you for sharing.

I collected stamps when I was a child, but not matchboxes. Three hundred matchboxes with different designs is a very impressive collection! What a wonderful hobby.

Thanks for sharing the article, John.

Interesting article Umesh ji, which reminded me of my childhood. Matchbox collection sounds unique indeed.
    Such sweet childhood memories!
I also had many hobbies during my childhood, and the good thing is that I have continued some of them, even at this age.
    Thank you for sharing this.
    Thank you John.

What a unique and different hobby.
Your article made my thoughts venture backwards to my grandparents house.

Just as you entered the kitchen there was an old metal box with an open lip on the bottom...it was filled with those long wooden matches to light the kitchen stove.

And yes, I remember those match boxes.  I don't see them very often anymore.

As for my childhood hobby, I collected fossils and rocks.

    A few seashells too.

I remember scouring the areas while my family was busy fishing

Thanks for sharing your work and bringing back those long forgotten memories.

I remember those types of matchboxes, plus the ones that pretty much replaced them.  Some were very decorative.  You had a sizable collection at an early age, Umesh.

I had several collections, especially postage stamps.  They still fascinate me as pieces of art.  Thanks, John, for sharing this in the forums.
