Take time to read Val's poem asking why we depict Those last moments of Jesus while dying.

In Belize second home, there is often two choices of a t shirts. The smiling Bob Marley shirt or Jesus on the cross shirt. I'll take a smile every time over suffering.  I can take a little ideologies from any or every religion. If it's life based on making good sense. Like Jesus helping the poor, sick and weak. He was angry with the greedy.  Think it's the best virtues service to come away with, none better than how Jesus  express it.

    Val...
You make a good point here.
We should picture Jesus in more than just him dying on the cross.
Perhaps picture him when he performs a miracle or walks among the people.
Maybe even as a little boy.

There are so many other times when he smiles.

Thanks for posting this, Brenda. Val makes a great point in this well-written and thought-provoking poem. I know someone who complains when we visit churches abroad and see multiple images of Jesus on the cross. These images miss the point. Jesus is no longer on the cross. As Christians we believe that Jesus died once for all to save us from our sins and set us free. He is risen in glory. The empty cross is a much better symbol to point us towards faith in him.

I agree totally with what Val says in the article. The image of Jesus suffering on the cross is only used to make believers feel guilty that he died for our sins,  in the hope it convinces us to behave or repent. It is the totally wrong way to go about selling the message of Christianity in these current times. An empty cross, or smiling caring Jesus are much better symbols.

I only belong to the optimist club.  I'm all for positive images promoting Jesus for his good bits. Jews could have more members if they promoted a heaven.

Don't know if a white European Jesus is true,  yet better feeling than being nailed to a cross.

Hi Val: Quite an interesting thought you shared in your poem. I also prefer to think of a smiling victorious Jesus. Thanks for your suggestion that we see His smiling face in our hearts. Thanks, Brenda, for sharing the link.
