An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his, but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music.
Why doesn't the expression of happiness and ecstasy figure in your definition of a poet.
Hey, I love happy poets..
A poet is anyone who decides to play with words to express his or her thoughts and feelings. As the Poetic Fool mentions, this covers the span of human experience and areas of interest. It also covers the span of human ability. That is, just because you play around with words does not necessarily mean you write poetry well. But then, everyone has to start somewhere, and, after all, it's the journey that matters.
I fully believe that everyone should be a poet, though there are some who never take the time or have never been introduced to its joys.
Read my short article titled "FOR THE LOVE OF POETRY", it will tell you exactly what poets and poetry are all about , and if that does not apease you then there are many , more on my page to choose from that will tell you ... not all poets and poems are reflective of sadness , only the most excellant poems of all time derive of sadness and dispair , one such arthur (in fact my favorite) wrote a book of over 600 pages of happiness ... A.A. Milne , my favorite author and poet , and if you do not know who he is he is the arthor of "winnie ~ ther~ poo . and yes , "ther" actually goes there not , "the" becasue "pooh" is a boy bear , good luck and have a wonderful day .Signed...the pathetically sad poet
lol
A dance on the ground
is an idulgense of the feet
as they swirl in the sand
and twirl around to repeat.
As a child I know
the green of the tree
blurs with the sky
in a coalesced scenery.
As my heart beats fast
I see the earth rock
while I lie on the groundd
waiting for the motion to stop.
I smile and think
my life had been anewed
with a beautiful thought
and unhappiness echewed.
But Unhappy poet make the poems with the pure emotions also happy poets do this. But unhappy make you feel how he feel.
Who says so??.. Pure emotions can be happy and exhilarating
That is only for you, if you are unhappy then unhappy poetry will strike a chord for you. I am only happy, visit me ( alternate poet ) and see if I can't touch you with a bit of happiness and love
Poetry covers the entire spectrum of human emotion from despair and anguish to the heights of ecstasy! Sure, there is a lot of sad poetry out there but sadness is a large part of the human experience. Likewise, so is happiness and ecstasy. Read some Emily Dickinson and see how elated she is and with what joy she writes of nature itself. All kinds of poets are out there you just have to look a little!
Um, there is more than one way to be a poet, perhaps even as a person who is female (gasp) and happy!
A poet is someone who makes things rhyme,
He, er, thinks of words and if there is time,
He'll put them down on the paper - line after line
And then at the end he probably spends a lot of thinking trying to finish off with a bang.
Not my best effort, but I have recently written a three page Kindle book called "My Best Poems" available for $14.99.
A poet can feel your pain
And express his own
He has an opinion
And will stand alone
He will tell of things
He thinks in the night
He only cares
About what is right
He will make you think
About life and who you are
It may be painful
It may open an old scar
You will know by his words
That his mind does burn
And even if you disagree
You will soon return
Because he will tell you
The truth as only he can
And in this world of rhyme
Only the strong will stand
In order to know what is a poet, one must first know what is a poem.
Someone explained it to me like this once: A writer plays with words to tell a story. A poet plays with the images attached to those words, just because. I like the debate going on in the responses. Good question.
touche (with a little mark over the "e")
Poetry falls and drips from my lips
Carressing the page
releasing my rage
the firey dreams of passionate love making
enfold
on the pages
of my writing book
Oh to be full of emotion
and able to express my devotion
with words
subtle and direct
leaving my thoughts always erect
The moon cuts the cloud
creating a silver disk in black cotton.
It is said three is a crowd.
Nightmares sense something ill gotten.
Tell a tale if you will
of the air which is staid
with a smell of swill
and the mess that it made.
So take a bow to the song
in the stars laid in a row.
This whole soiree went wrong
right from the get go.

Leo Tolstoy begins his novel Anna Karenina by stating that "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."Do you believe this is the case? Why or why not?

I think the barrier between men and happiness is fear and nothing else. Are you agree with me?
