    Is a Notice to Quit with a 3 day move out time line legal?

    Without any notice of the home being sold we were handed in person a Notice To Quit letter that told us we had 3 days to move. The person who purchased the home then asked for $800 to let us stay until the end of the month.

    It is only legal if you did not own your home. If you own your home, you would have to sign paper before they could own it legally. Unless it was foreclosed on, then they only have to give you between 24-72 hours to move out.

    Call the Housing Commission in your state. That is certainly a dirty move, but it might not be illegal. I know in some states, the tenant is supposed to be given 30 days' notice in such a case, but that is not how it works in all states.

    It's worth checking out.

    Normally 30 days notice is needed, but it depends on the State/Province in which you live. If the place is "deemed" as unsafe or a health hazard, you can move out ASAP.

    It depends on the circumstances.
