What is the best way to get grease stains off a hand embroidered tablecloth?

I have a hand embroidered tablecloth that has some stains and I am afraid I'll ruin it if I go too harsh, but just regular cycle in the washer does not take off the stains.
Some are probably oily stains, others may be from tomato sauce or wine.
Any suggestions on how to clean a "precious" tablecloth?
The fabric is white and the flowers embroidered are colorful.

Hot water or the dryer can set the grease stain. I would start by putting corn starch on a fresh stain and let it sit for hours until it has absorbed the oils, then brush it off w/ a soft tooth brush. Next I would apply a degreasing dish soap like Dawn to further break up the stain. Wash as usually in warm water but check again before putting in the dryer. It may need to be scrubbed w/  concentrated laundry soap and a toothbrush before a second wash. Good luck!

Thanks cat on a soapbox! I never heard of corn starch on the stains, I will definitely try that.
