There isn't room here to say it all.  1) I would save money--even pennies if I had to. When we were young if we had $50, we spent $60.I would save, invest, and pay attention to where I spend my money rather than buying useless crap because I am bored or whatever it was that bothered me as a young person.

And I would not use credit cards for every whim that came along. It took us years to learn how to use, save and respect money.

I'm like you in my early days I spent but when I became sick I turned things around quickly so it took me being ill to change my way of thinking.

This is such a topical question for me. A couple of months ago I was given a back payment from work, over a thousand pounds. I spent it on bills, gave some to family and so on. A month later, I found out that my rent had not been paid, not my fault long story, and guess what? yes it was by a thousand pounds! Oh if only I had known! it worked out okay in the end but still...!
