How many are coming over here to go to the Inauguration?
Frankly I'm bored with it already. This entire event is my new definition of the term "Over-hyped".
The problem with high expectations is that he can't possibly fill them all. So, his current enormous popularity is quite likely to backfire on him when people discover he's merely human. People are all over Bush's case now, but in October of '01 he had an approval rating of 92%.
The populace is very fickle. Obama is primarily a media creation. We'll see how it goes.
I too have a problem with Obama. Well, not with Obama himself, but with all the hype around him. Can't help it, especially when all the major roads around my place are closed by police because of that inaguration however it's spelled, and my visitors can't find a way to my house
The inauguration is a great historical moment...
that is costing over 150 million dollars, most of which will be paid for with the tax payers money!
More than Clinton's or Bush's !!
The inauguration where millions of people will have to stand on the street for three hours in the freezing cold (have you read that they will not be allowed to move/come or go, because of security) for that 2 minutes of "will you be president"...and the "I will". Let alone all the money they will be spending to get there and stay there.
Frankly, seriously, think of what we could do with that money to help those in need !!
Oh, have you also heard Obama wants to build a full size basketball court at the Whitehouse...spending money on want he wants just like other presidents have done... and he wants another 800 billion dollars to support the banks and big businesses, just like others have done...am I missing something here...or are others missing these points??? And what about the promises he made...who is sacrificing here ?
FYI, Sparkling Jewel, before you get too outraged about the expense, there isn't currently any substantiation for the $160 million figure floating around. It's certainly possible that it's true, but Bush's inauguration in 2004 cost over $115 million (including about 45 million for the event and the rest mainly for security costs) and there were less than half a million onlookers at his, compared to over one million (some say double that) at Obama's.
I won't be going, especially since they're shutting down all bridges from VA that lead directly into DC (what a pointless pain in the butt).
I do have several friends that are going to be selling Obama t-shirts to the masses!
Watch Inauguration of B.H. Obama as President Live on CNN at the comfort of your home. Its free.
I just wanted to tell those who are coming to be aware that they aren't going to have enough PortoPoties and it is going to be freezing and we are also expecting a snowstorm(???) Moday night into Tuesday.
I have never went to any inauguration and never will. It's just a swearing in and they are changing that too--no god in the promise. I don't mind that, just what are they going to hold over them to make sure they understand what they are going to be doing. "So Help Me God" is like apromise tht is strong in the Christian faith, but not so in the Atheist---but what are they going to say that will hold them to their word? That is what it is about anyway and it has nothing to do with God.
Anyway, I just thought to let you know that it isn't going to be nice or sunny and you won't be able to move--not becasue of security but the amount of people!! and you will have to hld your urine and other stuff for a good long time!! Ohand you can't bring anythig to go into like jugs or bottles!!!
Have fun people and I hope that you don't get frostbite!!
I will just watch it on TV!!
On CNN last night they said he was going to use the bible to swear on that Lincoln used. Where did you hear they were taking God out of the swearing in...I would like to read that.
Hi everyone.. plez'd to meet u. I can't wait until tomorrow. It is long over due. It is refreshing to see that he is putting into actions steps to helps the economy,. Even the white haired ex possible presi. at the time said so he was awesome in not so many words. Go Obama.. u rock. Ur friend, nikki happy 09 to all. The world made an incredibly awesome choice. In my opinion. Thanx,
Check out my Hub. I am promoting my political hubs and have some solid information about the inauguration and the presidency:}
A sign of a growing people... the 1st Black president...he is making history..very true. I think it's just awesome!
Why is everyone focusing on only one side of this president? He is not 100% black---he is White AND Black and he is the bridge for both races.................not just the Blacks!!
I don't think it is really the focus. It's a great moment in American History. Using the Bible that Lincoln used when he was sworn in has so much symbolism in it and if I was Obama I would be crying like a baby!
I don't believe you are right about "God" being taken out of the swearing in. Though our country is not founded on Christian beliefs, God is still part of what our country was founded on, so I don't forsee that happening and if it did, well I would find it very unsettling. Oh gotta go! It's on like Donkey Kong!
I watched live streaming of the inaugural speech, and I gotta say I really was impressed with the substance of it. For starters, there was substance, not catchphrases or blind, half-witted accusations of people being "evil" just because they don't happen to see eye to eye with The West. It was not a ringing, jingoistic recitation of empty promise, either. It was sober, in fact. And while it is impossible to specify directly what actions this president is likely to take, he was able to demonstrate somber statesmanship regarding the future of the American engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan. The current economic crisis is a cluster*&^$, indeed; but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that recovery poses an opportunity to rectify other concurrent issues -- such as healthcare and education. Heck, I might even become an American citizen, instead of a disgruntled alien.
Its beginning to look like power means paying more for what you wear, from J. Crew to Mr. Wu.
Who is to say how you would exude if you earned a high office? Time changes things.

I cried like a baby through the inauguration because it was so special to me, and that has never happened before. They were tears of joy, relief, blessing, victory and an answer to prayer.Rarely the odds are so uneven, majority of powerful nations were against him and yet he won, for that, he...

I read this in my local paper yesterday. What do you think? Is "exceptionalism" a good word or a bad word?Does it describe what America was? What America is today?By Kathleen ParkerSunday, January 30, 2011 He didn't say it. That word: "exceptional." Barack Obama described an...

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said last week that Obama has a secret agenda for his second term. I'm wondering what that is. Romney did not say. Or is this the old psychological trick of projecting your fault on the other guy. Is it Mitt who has the secret agenda? I surely don't know. Perhaps,...

What is this thing with Palin being so shielded from the press? Evidently, they don't want her asked about the investigation into "alleged" wrongdoing in the troopergate scandal. I'm thinking maybe she is the one orchestrating this, because I can't see her going along with...
