Frankly I'm bored with it already. This entire event is my new definition of the term "Over-hyped".

The problem with high expectations is that he can't possibly fill them all. So, his current enormous popularity is quite likely to backfire on him when people discover he's merely human.  People are all over Bush's case now, but in October of '01 he had an approval rating of 92%.

The populace is very fickle.  Obama is primarily a media creation. We'll see how it goes.

I too have a problem with Obama. Well, not with Obama himself, but with all the hype around him. Can't help it, especially when all the major roads around my place are closed by police because of that inaguration however it's spelled, and my visitors can't find a way to my house sad

The inauguration is a great historical moment...

that is costing over 150 million dollars, most of which will be paid for with the tax payers money!

    More than Clinton's or Bush's !!

The inauguration where millions of people will have to stand on the street for three hours in the freezing cold (have you read that they will not be allowed to move/come or go, because of security) for that 2 minutes of  "will you be president"...and the  "I will". Let alone all the money they will be spending to get there and stay there.

Frankly, seriously, think of what we could do with that money to help those in need !!

Oh, have you also heard Obama wants to build a full size basketball court at the Whitehouse...spending money on want he wants just like other presidents have done... and he wants another 800 billion dollars to support the banks and big businesses, just like others have done...am I missing something here...or are others missing these points??? And what about the promises he made...who is sacrificing here ?

FYI, Sparkling Jewel, before you get too outraged about the expense, there isn't currently any substantiation for the $160 million figure floating around. It's certainly possible that it's true, but Bush's inauguration in 2004 cost over $115 million (including about 45 million for the event and the rest mainly for security costs) and there were less than half a million onlookers at his, compared to over one million (some say double that) at Obama's.

I won't be going, especially since they're shutting down all bridges from VA that lead directly into DC (what a pointless pain in the butt).

I do have several friends that are going to be selling Obama t-shirts to the masses!

I just wanted to tell those who are coming to be aware that they aren't going to have enough PortoPoties and it is going to be freezing and we are also expecting a snowstorm(???) Moday night into Tuesday.

I have never went to any inauguration and never will.  It's just a swearing in and they are changing that too--no god in the promise.  I don't mind that, just what are they going to hold over them to make sure they understand what they are going to be doing.  "So Help Me God" is like apromise tht is strong in the Christian faith, but not so in the Atheist---but what are they going to say that will hold them to their word?  That is what it is about anyway and it has nothing to do with God.

Anyway, I just thought to let you know that it isn't going to be nice or sunny and you won't be able to move--not becasue of security but the amount of people!! and you will have to hld your urine and other stuff for a good long time!!  Ohand you can't bring anythig to go into like jugs or bottles!!!
Have fun people and I hope that you don't get frostbite!!

I will just watch it on TV!!

On CNN last night they said he was going to use the bible to swear on that Lincoln used. Where did you hear they were taking God out of the swearing in...I would like to read that.

Why is everyone focusing on only one side of this president?  He is not 100% black---he is White AND Black and he is the bridge for both races.................not just the Blacks!!

I don't think it is really the focus.  It's a great moment in American History.  Using the Bible that Lincoln used when he was sworn in has so much symbolism in it and if I was Obama I would be crying like a baby!

I don't believe you are right about "God" being taken out of the swearing in.  Though our country is not founded on Christian beliefs, God is still part of what our country was founded on, so I don't forsee that happening and if it did, well I would find it very unsettling.  Oh gotta go!  It's on like Donkey Kong!

I watched live streaming of the inaugural speech, and I gotta say I really was impressed with the substance of it.  For starters, there was substance, not catchphrases or blind, half-witted accusations of people being "evil" just because they don't happen to see eye to eye with The West.  It was not a ringing, jingoistic recitation of empty promise, either.  It was sober, in fact.  And while it is impossible to specify directly what actions this president is likely to take, he was able to demonstrate somber statesmanship regarding the future of the American engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The current economic crisis is a cluster*&^$, indeed; but I don't think I'm alone in thinking that recovery poses an opportunity to rectify other concurrent issues -- such as healthcare and education. Heck, I might even become an American citizen, instead of a disgruntled alien.

Its beginning to look like power means paying more for what you wear, from J. Crew to Mr. Wu.
Who is to say how you would exude if you earned a high office?  Time changes things.
