Quacky-Daffy of Libya; can democracy be bestowed by a well-aimed bullet?
in the middle east, democracy is almost impossible to keep. religion plays to big of a part in their lives and it always has. they may gain a bit of freedom by getting rid of people like the leader of syria but in the end it will only be temporary.
It really depends on whether you see Khadfy as the "cause" of the problems or simply as an "effect". Can Libya move toward democracy with him gone? I am not sure just as I am not sure that Egypt can attain that goal. Religion and religious fanaticism are a big part of the tinder box in that part of the world. I am not convinced that "democracy" and the democratic process are first and foremost in people's minds...at least not those who can make a difference. There is more behind these uprisings in the streets than currently meets the eye. I think we will see some of that emerge soon and I am not so sure that we are going to like what we see. WB

President Flip Flop, as a senator, opposed the "dumb war" against dictator Saddam Hussein but supports "kinetic military action" against dictator Kadaffy. Unfortunately for him, it's not going so well because the rebels are an undisciplined rag tag bunch without a...
