*clearing the throat*
Goodpal that is so weird of you to even think like that but since you asked i assume then you are not poor
so the best answer to your question is to ask yourself "you as the rich do you ever have a useful role in the society?"
now if you answer this properly then you should realize that the poor play the same role as you problem is that you(the rich) never realize it
but its good you understand that we all have nothing of our own and its not that you are better than that poor guy at you doorstep but its because someone gave you the grace to have all that you have....
Of course, who else are they going to get to do their dirty work. We are seen as peons.
If you are poor in the economical side, yes you are useful to the society. The trouble starts when you are poor on morals, education and compation,
A well rounded societal person would know this answer. They say don't spit up cuz it'll fall on your face.... In other words don't dump on poor people you will never know when you will be one... Don't be envious of the rich ones.... You never know when you will become one.. Embrace everyone with an open mind.... I've been blessed with every level of society but most enjoyed the interaction and liveliness and giving of the poor...Besides all will view being poor differently... You could have millions but be a poor judge of character, a poor sociopath that has no clue about the real world.... etc.. etc.... Or you could be a poor person living check to check yet have all the best of the world such as family, love, and health but no money... Equilibrium is the key to life's happiness...
Are you kidding, this is very insulting; you are saying that someone who has very little is worthless. Its people like you who are worthless
Everyone can provide something to society regardless of wealth. The way you have wrote this makes them sound like a disease to society which they are not!Even the rich can fall into poverty it just depends what society can do to help them be productive. It assumes that they are washed up and have nothing to offer.
So in response to your question. They have everything to offer and are not a burden on society!
For heaven's sake, what a rediculous question! Every human being is created in the image of God. Can we not find joy and simple pleasure without "plenty"? And what of the meaning of life? For so many, it is to bring glory to God, for which you need no money at all. Our treasure is to be found elsewhere. Is there any wonder why?
Yes they are useful..You know everyone is important for this world
I have been known to answer a question with a question. So, please allow me to ask, "Were any of the following a burden to society?"
Abraham Lincoln, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Mother Theresa, Harriet Tubman, Ghandi, Rosa Parks, Paul Mitchell, Steve Jobs (he may be considered average, but he did drop out of college because he couldn't afford the tuition), J.K. Rowling.......
Or maybe, another question "Did society benefit more from their contribution than the contribution of those considered rich?"
Or still, is society more of a burden to the poor than the poor are to society?? If the answer to this is yes, will the rich or society allow this to change?
Booker Washington and GW Carver were born to slave parents. I would guess slaves were burdened more by society than the burden society considered them to be. Do the rich cause a burden on society???
What is the dollar value of a person to society rich or poor????
Sounds like a good hub-hmmmm
Of course poor people can be valuable, there are both valuable rich and poor people, some rich people became rich partially because of their fortunate circumstances, while other people have unfortunate circumstances. So it is not an exact science saying whether rich people are more useful to society. In the Chack Republic for example, there is a lot of racism towards the Jipsies race (Excuse my spelling) and result in a situation where a Jipsie with a PhD would at most get a job as a bricklayer, over there, because nobody would hire them for higher position, due to racial discrimination.
Everyone serves a purpose and no humans life is more valuable than the next. The poor need more respect because what we consider poor as a society can easily affect any of us at any time because of a major life altering event. It is important to realize sometimes we all need a little help in some form or fashion. I personally feed those people I see on the side of the road mangled and holding small signs because it was something that was put on my heart to do. If you are blessed and able what does it hurt to help someone that is less fortunate. You never know what road life will take you down so as someone else said you will reap what you sow.
Well I'm potless right now, but I take no handouts and work hard. I'm wondering what the alternative is if you decide they serve no useful purpose...
And how do you measure poor? I know some financially well off people who are morally bankrupt.
Certainly a question to provoke a lively debate!
Ronald Regan must have thought so. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made so many of them.
They're an absolutely integral and fundamental building block to our society. They provide the sturdy foundation upon which the rest of society depends. Capitalism is based on a mass of poor people doing jobs that make the middle class and upper classes possible.
Of course!
They remind us of the reality of what happens when either you give up on society or society gives up on you.
It does not mean poor people have no use in the society. Yes their money is only enough for them. But poor people are not poor spiritually.
May sound sad, but I found a lot more good people between those that didn't have much than those that wear the fancy suites and have all the money. Being poor is not a character trade or lack of. And too often they are the last sources of true morality within our society!
"Blessed are the poor in heart, spirit," etc. Poverty comes in many forms. All of us are poor in something even if it is class, good manners, or compassion. The big dollar is very small when compared with these traits. A person should b very careful about his/her answer lest he/she falls to bankruptcy. Jesus said that the poor will always be with us. He went about blessing, helping, and feeding the poor. He is the perfect source for such questions.
Yes, the poor is useful to society. the poor can teach us to share, have compassion, be thankful, and help in other ways.
Take the "poor" out of society and who will you count on, when you need something a doctor, or lawyer can't do for you. The poor keep this country going. Who do you think works in all of the factories and retail stores. It certainly is not the rich upper management. My question to you is, do you serve any meaningful purpose?
How will people become rich if you do not have the poor? They work, and in general, they hold no negative impact. Yes, complain about taxes, but it's all in the social contract.
Let's look at it this way. Every society from every nation to ever walk on this earth has had the three middle classes...Rich, Middle and Poor, and just like then, yes the poor have a purpose. For without the poor, and for those reading this, I myself fall in the poor category, you would have no one. For what is poor, but one's opinion? What is poor to someone may be rich to another. Think about it....In America, I am considered lower middle class to poor, but yet, compared to someone say in Ethiopia, I probably live like a king. So if you were to get "rid" of the poor, all you'll do is create new poor. Then you have to get rid of them, and guess what, the next level is poor, and so on and so on until there is no one in this world left.
Definitely!! anyone could be useful for society!! How can you say that somebody who doesn't earn dollars is useless for society? I think most of the poor do those jobs which rich people do not do..like a farmer, cobbler, paper boy etc. So I think they are very important! Money can't make you useful or useless!!!
I think they are the most useful. The farmer who grows the food we eat, the welder who builds the buildings we comfortably sleep in, the newspaper guy who keeps us aware of the world, the driver who ensures we reach home safely after a hard day at work, are all economically poor, but without them, what would we do?
Whoa! I never judge anyone based on anything, even those with ridiculous questions. While your's is quite insulting, its a fair question. We've all had it cross our minds at one time or another and I'm sure we've all come to the same conclusion. The poor serve no purpose to society.
But then, neither do lions nor tigers. The poor are simply people who have been unfortunate in life, and those able and determined enough, will find a way out. All they need is a little bit of help and guidance. If people asking such ignorant questions, with such ignorant minds, continue to disregard the poor, the poor shall remain forever more.
From the way you've phrased the question, it would seem you don't think they serve any purpose. What are you going to do, exterminate most of the African population? Perhaps, instead of focusing on how much of a burden they are on society, dedicate such wasted time to supporting the poor.
It would be time well spent.
The poor will always be among us. The poor in spirit will too. I wonder which is worse.

Why everything in society gets decided by the rich? Will the rich any importance left if suddenly all the poor people vanish from the societies? In fact, poor people work at cheaper wages to create wealth for the rich. Yet, the poor have hardly any voice in society. The rich shun them as lazy or...

Funding for our country's children is being cut, but we allow a hedge fund manager to make enough money to pay the salaries of every public school teacher in New York City. Why does poverty even exist in 'advanced' nations, such as Canada, U.S., and Great Britain? To get a better answer to some other questions I've posted, I need to know why such 'wealthy' nations even have a poverty problem in the first place.

There are some who contend that there is a gross inequality regarding income. They maintain that there are poverty amid wealth. They vehemently decry that there should be equalization in terms of income. They maintain that having wealth borders on obscenity & they should...
