Where does racism come from?
on hubpages, I have discovered many friends from different strata, communities and countries. I found them all very loving, nice and cooperative where I feel racism has no place.
Primarily from ignorance.
However, there are individuals who encourage racism for political and personal ends.
Racism in the US goes back to the 17th Century when plantation owners deliberately turned white servants against black servants in order to keep them from uniting and rebelling against the wealthy landed class. They did this by granting concessions to the ambitious whites, who were eager to not be at the very bottom of the social hierarchy. Eventually the white slaves were released to go be dirt-poor ignorant southern farmers. The black slaves remained slaves. A self-justification of racism also developed in the south so that planters did not feel immoral by their making money off forced labor of blacks.
