Which political candidate has the best plan to improve the economic problems in America?
In my opinion, the President. The Republican candidates are fixated on shrinking government for the sake of shrinking government, to the point where they seem unable to notice that the millions of government employees laid off over the past two years have been the biggest single contributer to unemployment, and the biggest single drag on the economic recovery.
Which wouldn't be quite so bad, if our structural deficit problems had actually been addressed. They haven't, because those problems don't result from overdone discretionary spending, which is what has been cut.
In essence, we've had the worst of both worlds, courtesy of a misguided House and an obstructionist Senate minority.
I will say that to fix the economic structures, reduce the debt and get the people to work without letting old and sick people, children starve and public services become a memory Mitt Romney is the best!
Newt Gingrich is a shady character that is cleaning up his act for the office, Ron Paul tells truths and won't be scared of letting people die and starve if the numbers get better... I won't go that far!
I think that using the ideas of others that are good after getting in the office would be good...because Romney is more human that those two.

Do you think people should have to display an understanding of politics before being allowed to voteI don't mean an in-depth understanding, just a basic one of how government works and what each party/candidate stands for.

A serious question, posed more to those who identify as Democrats. I would really like to know who you believe will come forth with a message of unification, prosperity, and a positive outlook toward the future... someone mainstream Americans could believe in.
