The lack of humanity Americans have eludes me. I plans to accept current state we are in. How is it that the Banks and Car dealerships were allowed to receive money, when there are thousands of homeless children, shelters for battered women are closing or run down. Not to mention unemployment. It is a fundamental right to food and shelter in America, so I thought. Now that the truthis out about what these companies actually did with money where is the Revolt. It is time to stop tip-toeing around issues. That money is desperately needed in public schools so they can meet the Brown v Board of Education standards. All public schools are not EVEN so why are we letting entities that have commerce take away from institutions that can potentially produce individuals that will KNOW HOW TO BALANCE BOOKS?BREAK EVEN AT THE END OF THE QUARTER ETC... How is it that we are America but a large portion of the world treat their citizens better? We need to get back to reality and BLOW THE SMOKE SCREENS DOWN. Be aware. STOP THE PROPAGANDA OF SCARE TACTICS. Capitalism has become COMMUNISM. PAY ATTENTION. WE HAVEN'T REALLY BEEN IN CONTROL FOR SOME TIME.
Whoa, skippy. . .back the F up there. There is no fundamental right to food and shelter in the US. Where on earth did you get that idea? This country was built on the "boot strap" mentality. What you need is out there if you want it, here's the opportunity, now go get it.
If you don't like what the socialists are doing to this country VOTE THEM OUT.
I HAVE VOTED OUT THE COMMUNIST MASKING THEMSELVES A REPUBLICAN SLEEPING WITH SAUDI ARABIA SO FORTH AND SO. The fundemental right to food and shelter was created for the famers etc after the first depression. Intelligent comments has no place for profanity. The real estate fraud that brokers enacted is something else that slipped through the cracks without punishment.
Right ON!
I am trying to, hope others will join in!
So many people these days think they are ENTITLED to other people's treasure. THEY ARE NOT! I'm busting my ass to get what I want, so why can't the rest do the same instead of freeloading off of me?
If you don't mind my asking, where are you from and how old are you?
I do mind you asking as I see no RELEVANCE to your questions. If you can answer the same then maybe we could have a dialogue on the REVELANCE of inteligence vs smarts or age vs Life experience.
Thanks, that answers my questions. Good luck.
Nice one - send the stupidity back to Cambridge from whence it came....
Capitalism would have not bailed out those companies. They would have failed. Schools don't need more money. They need to not be run by the government. what is your answer?
Schools do need government funding. In a society that presents itself a progressive we have the lowest scores across the board. In some "third world" countries citizens are given an education through college. As stated ,the government funding would be set up with an officer ,the officer would bring book supplies and school safety up. Then after the academic materials were equal to high scoring public institutions , teachers and school officails would be uprooted(fired). School programs would be implemented. programs such as tutoring,AP English,Math etc. There are schools in New York that have effectively changed the demographics of student acheivements.By Humanity I mean Kindess ,charity ,,compassion, and sympathy. What affects one will eventually affect us all. Let go of egotistical mindset.
Only if they want government failure.
We can do without that.
What do you mean?
For what it's worth.
All that and $2 will get you a cup of coffee.
Egotistical like presuming that your unrestrained emotions present simple solutions to the world's problems?
I'd like to buy the world a Coke....
YOU ARE HILARIOUS. I CAN SEE WHY BUSH LASTED FOR EIGHT YEARS.
We can't afford to give everything away! It would be nice to feed the world but we can't! We can't bail out companies that are run by cunning con men who rationalize the raping of America. We can't allow our jobs outsourced to other countries so the few reap all the rewards. On the other hand everybody has to work and make a livable wage. We have welfare families who our so caught in the cycle of poverty generations have never even had a job!
I think tarrifs must be imposed on goods and services from outsourced jobs. I think we need to pull back our military and protect ourselves. We need to close our borders, we have to! I also think we need mandatory national service for everyone no exceptions. Pay could come in the form of credits for college, healthcare insurance and retirement. These job could help support expanded medical services, border patrols, infastructure, housing and military. This way we get a return on our money and the ones with less can use this as some sweat equity.
Sorry I ran on this something I really feel is neccessary, we have to do something outside the box, something innovative.
Hello everyone,
I see we have an interesting topic to discuss and from what I've seen from the responses....this isn't getting anyone anywhere.
Now, with that said, I do agree with a couple of things and I also disagree with a few things. Granted, not much has been said, but it seem to me that the 'politics' of the situation is what's escaping most and the simple fact that many people are suffering throughout the country.
Now, if you haven't read my hub about what's wrong in America, it might be something you want to read, even if you don't agree, read it(and no, I'm not self-promoting). It is so you get a better grip on some the statistics of citizens and know who is in control, because it certainly isn't the citizens.
The idea of taking schools(public) out of state government control isn't a right step in any direction. You cannot put our school system in the hands of private industry. It cannot be allowed nor should it be done.
Private industry is exactly that private. It might turn the school system into something completely ridiculous and made even worse. How ever, government isn't doing a good enough job when it comes to handling the financial aspect. The cost cutting measures many schools(public) have had to deal with is also another ridiculous event happening. The contracts for teachers and the teachers union is out of control.
Where supplies are being purchased from needs to be re-evaluated, so more can be done with the money being allocated for schools.
Colleges have recently increase their rates, because they are lacking support, not from government, but from private industry donations. Why? Because those who were giving to the schools can no longer afford to do so, due to cost cutting measure to maintain profitability. Please do realize- almost ALL companies that are publicly traded(Wall Street) companies are forced by investors, shareholders and board-members to grow the profits by at least 10-20% per quarter(in some cases) or per year.
This is automatically going to create an even bigger problem if the citizens are not properly educated on the best way to earn a living within America's border.
For those of you who are about scream....PEOPLE NEED TO GET JOB!
That is not the answer, because jobs are not available. The opportunity for work isn't going to get better anytime soon, simply because 'business' hires people are their own pace and not before.
That leaves only one alternative, besides crime, and that is to go into business for yourself, kind of like a lot of hubbers are doing, by trying to create earnings here.
If you think I am wrong....then think about it in this manner.....
The "Employment" program, so people can get a job was initially created by government(federal) so there would be docile workforce for businesses, but it is subjected to down-turns like a recessionary period, which government has to inject money into the economy to stimulate it, per se. That means Washington has to grease the wheels to make it work, otherwise business will become stagnant and be unable to hire more employees, especially if business isn't increasing.
Government has been operating this way for many decades and now the problem is that the program is failing to produce jobs.
The "Minimum" wage program is yet another program offered by government, so workers can earn a paycheck, which barely allows them to live.....THUS, you are forced to hold on to your job, even if you don't like it. This does nothing for productivity and burdens the people working the job, because they are each stress that they cannot get ahead.
PLUS, the program is not uniform across the nation. Not all states are required to pay minimum wage to employees, unless they are government employees. Each state has it's own set minimum wage- another ridiculous method.
I remember someone making a comment on bring out people who are in a WAR right now....home. This is not an option.
America has already pulled out of one War this century and doesn't need to do it again, without finishing the job. Yes, I know the war on terrorism is somewhat ridiculous sounding, but we have adequate military still here to protect.
Closing the borders is also NOT an option. You can put stricter guidelines for entering the U.S., but you cannot completely close the borders. Tighter security, like ALL countries require passport indentification- coming and leaving. How much the government charges for these things is up to them.....the higher the better. If these people want into the country, make them pay their way in.
Remember, America offers the best Economy for which to sell to, over any other Nation in the World...and that's saying alot considering there is only 350 Million citizens. The imports and exports....tariffs...idea is ridiculous also, because federal government already taxes all things coming and going.
Companies who sell to the citizens which are U.S. based, but import products....should have a higher tax bracket, if the product isn't made here. There is no reason for companies to build anything here because the wages for citizens are too damn high and the cost(retail) to consumers is going to too much.
Just in case you didn't know already....ALL TAXES incurred by a company are already passed on to the consumer, regardless whether or not, the product is imported or exported. This is how business models here in the U.S. works.
I don't mean to sound angry or mean about anything anyone said, it's just that not many people are aware of the many other problems, such as starving families, homeless families and the main reason for why healthcare is out of control.
These problems are not simply just individual problems....each is affecting everyone's home life, because it is bring on additional burdens, such meal taxes, tobacco taxes(outrageous), unwarranted other taxation, as well, as other law(s) are being created to drain the pockets of everyone.
If I left anything out....I am sure you won't let me forget it, how ever, I don't want to fight with you, but I would like to get your take on it.
Insults and telling me I don't know what I am talking about....would be a big mistake, considering this what I do. I have been re-visiting this growing problem and the many solutions from the last 10-20 past administrations have been unable to stablize America's Economic fortune nor bring an sanity to life for citizens.
There are other problems....but I'll leave it there for now.
Even though our public schools are so-so at best and our private schools are by far the best in the world? Good thinking.
And what do you think is going to happen when you put our public school system in the hands of private industry?
You really think it's going to get better. The private schools in my state restrict enrollment....so I guess that's better....limiting the amount of kids per school and telling some well, you can't go here....because you don't qualify.
I don't think so.
I think the schools that perform will thrive and the ones that don't will persish and be replaced by others that better meet the demands of the market. Oh, how terrible!
Yes and as such it demands results, which is something government-run, public union beholden entities do not (with predictable results).
They certainly do not. If public schools underperform they do not go the way of private enterprise that underperforms. The very worst threat is that they will be 'taken over' by even more bureaucracy and a bunch of lazy teachers from the union will demand more money and gripe about the MCAS again.
The MCAS program demands a certain level in order to graduate....isn't that results?
Private enterprise is already ruining America and if you're unable to see the damage, then I'm not going to be able to talk to you about.
If you think you're right, so be it.
Enjoy.
P.S. Like I said, I wanted to discuss it, but it seems like you're a know it all. Therefore, since you want to tell me everything that you think you know....without giving creditability to my voice....I guess there is no room for discussing anything with you...let alone what's in the best interest of the Nation. You seem to be more dedicate inject your misguided thoughts.
You have a nice day.
Ah yes, even though centrally planned economies have been proven failures time and time again.
Thank you for your refreshing comments. There are points in your article that ring true. Privatization of public schools was not what I was necessarily suggesting. I am however in favor of some regulated private control. Education is the key to success. Without delving into your article, I have known that the citizens(USA) have not been in control for some time but that is not to imply we can not gain control back by actively participating in social justice movements.
Your commentary is all over the place. I can't even tell if you're conservative, moderate or liberal. Clarify please.
