Not going to say "yay" or "nay" to political actions...this is just an observation from glancing at a few posts this morning:

In just a minute of reading 2 Political Forum postings I saw the dates 2010, 2012, and 2016?

So...my question...is...obvious...What does that say about what is happening in the here and now...if all we can talk about is the future?

(BTW: that reminds me...I never saw an answer about a car bumper sticker that said 01/21/13...or was ot 01/20/13...any takers on that one?)

maybe it means now is boring and people are impatient? or is this like one of those IQ find the pattern questions i allways get wrong?

I don't frequent the political forums so I dont really know what you refer to, but by many of the headings, it looks like many who do frequent those forums are always complaining anyway. who wants to live that way??? not me.  smile  life is now, not yesterday or tomorrow.

I think what ya'll both said are valid points...Life is now...and people are impatient with the now and look for the future for everything to change. But...What about now?

well, very quickly, because I need to work... to me now is all we have, if we don't live now, working, enjoying our homes, our family, our friends, taking care of ourselves both physically and emotionally, spiritually, then what really is the satisfaction of life?

if our minds are stuck in the future, which really isn't the future (all we ever have is this moment), we can't achieve in the present. my dad used to say, 'if you can change something, change it, otherwise forget about it and live your life.'
o.k. manylypoetryman, I must go for now, but wanted to share my thoughts since you asked. smile

now is all you ever have. use it wisely, live it to the fullest, it will soon become a great memory or a useless regret. either way, NOW is all youll ever get.

I think it is a matter of people feeling as if they can't change today but can look to the future for changes - hopefully for the better.

Yeah Manlyman, I think people want to try to persuade others to come on over to their way of thinking about an issue. A lot of people think their way of looking at something is the only way, while in reality that is seldom the case. I like to keep an open mind, and look at all the available info before making my mind up on an issue.

Jery...I think you just summized everything I was juz' re-thinking on this...at what point do you stop...and pick-up the ball...collectively as a team (granted that not everyone would be onboard with that)...and drive the damn thing down the field from where we are at...instead of wishing we were in the Red Zone!

And one other "Dog gone" point to that...even the best of "teams" get driven back on the one yard line...think about it?

Yeah, maybe a little. On a more serious note though, I think people have been a pretty discruntled by the war and the recession and are trying to plan a better future.

By not looking at what happens now and what's going to happen as a result you get presidents like Obama - so those who are concerned with not letting any more of their rights and freedoms be legislated out from under them dissect everything they see.

I can understand some not wanting to involve themselves in the forums - I frequently take a break myself, but I do find it fascinating, as do many others.

1/20/12 refers to the day our next president is sworn in.

You win madame X...I saw that 01/20/13 in a Wal-Mart parking lot on a bumper sticker a month ago...and went "huh"..."OOOhh"...I think that is what started me on this trend of thinking about here and the now!

Also...i do not mean to critique the political forums too badly...they are probably necessary to get a feel for where everyone's head is at. I was on one Political Forum for a year...and enjoyed it...It was even through the prez election! Yet...if I go back to it today...which I did...the same people are still saying the same things...and like "just using words" can often be...what has become of it???

What it says about here and now is that 1/2 of this country (USA) feels helpless about what is happening. We can't change the direction this country is heading and we are afraid that in the haste to make the changes we really want, to be free and more prosperous, we made an unwise choice. We see the destruction of this nation. A country headed towards bankruptcy, high inflation, high interest rates and high unemployment. We see a government that wants a larger role in providing for the "general welfare" of the people with the condition that the people submit to it's will while it confiscates our wealth. 2010, 2012, can't come fast enough!

Ya' know...I hear ya', Poppa B. I also have the mentality of being fed-up for a lot of personal reasons...but in so hearing all these future dates being thrown around...I remember an election in 1976-1980-1988-1992-2000-2004...where all the same gosh darn B.S. was mentioned. And...so it was with that type of thinking that I posted my comment.

You're right of course! Both parties have failed to do anything but enrich themselves at the expense of the people! There is a lot of talk about bipartisanship and if you ask me the problem isn't that there isn't enough compromise, it's that there is too much! Compromise of the values that the founders of this nation held dear is what's hurting the American people. We have become to apathetic and uninterested in what is going on in Washington and while we weren't paying attention, the politicians have been stealing from us!
I believe they have our attention now! We're not going to stand any longer for the corruption and the lies! I will not sit back while my personal freedom is under attack by liberals with their socialistic and progressive agenda, and I don't think I'm alone in that. No offense to you democrats, but I think you need to go read your history books and while you're at it read the US Constitution!

To even begin to suggest that our freedom and democracy begins and ends with electing our officials is to submit to their power and give up your own. Like Frank Zappa once said, "You'll be absolutely free . . . only if you want to be."

Maybe people are having a hard time finding any fulfillment and joy in the present, and are projecting to the future by way of "the grass is greener in when..." or they are bent on doomsday prophecy and can't live in the present because we are going to hell.

Either way, all we have is right now. Now is all there is. Even in 2012, it will be just now. It's a stream of consciousness from here to there that you can't get to without living in right now.

My take is that I need to pull myself together and enjoy right now. Fix the crap in my life right now so I can figure out how to have a little peace and happiness now. The past no longer exists, and the future doesn't exist. It's just now, and that's all. Might as well make the best of now.

Yeah the here and now is what's important. Worry about the future and regrets about the past are pretty much a waste of time, and that time your wasting would be the present of course! Live for the present, make sure the people you love know it, and be the best you can be every day.
