Can someone please tell me what our current president has done to help you?
I can't think of how anything the democrats in congress or the President has tried to do has helped me. I hope there is someone out there that they have helped, and hope I can hear about it.
Personally I have never had any President help me. That goes for both Democrats and Republicans. I believe we are responsible for our own happiness in a free society.
Every year some businesses and people earn more or less money regardless of who is in office. Most of us would be better off to look into the mirror as opposed to looking to the government to improve our lot in life. One man's opinion! :-)
well said dashing, I never understood people's need to blame or credit the government for their lot in life - we should help ourselves.
Exactly, and it the founders of our country never intended for the federal government to be involved in most things. Anything not listed in the Constitution was supposed to be left to the states.
A healthcare plan for all Americans. Many of the services are already being used by our youth and our retirees. Question might better be put as follows: Have the Republicans in Congress done anything to help the average American?
No but either have Democrats. They pretty much work together. Any government program that seems to help people, usually does the opposite.
Forcing people who are above the poverty line but still can't afford insurance to buy it or be fined is a good thing?
Actually, both parties haven't done anything to help the American people. They might argue in front of the cameras, but behind the scenes they making deals. The best solution is to return healthcare to the free market, allow competition
There is never any fair measurement of a sitting president or his rival from the other party. At this point it becomes not a question of what was done in the past four years, but what was done last month or last week and what will be done before the election.
History treats former presidents better than the people treat sitting presidents. So we may have to wait eight to 16 years to see if the current president did for us.
Personally, I am not overjoyed at the conditions in our country. However, I hold the congress just as accountable for our problems as I do the President. It is the Congress that adopts the unbalanced budget. It is the Congress that allows earmarks and wasteful allocations. It is the Congress that has developed such a partisan division that it may take years before the two parties can ever work together for the common good of the people, instead of the political gain of the party in power.
I agree with this, everyone wants to blame presidents alone for everything - but it's the representatives in Congress/Senate that are largely to blame with their continuous displays of juvenile behavior and inability to work for their constituents.
He, with help from the congress of the time, has made a mess of American health care, motivating me to do what I should have done long ago: consider how to reduce my personal dependence on the products and services provided by our medical establishment. I owe him a thanks for having screwed it up so badly.
He has exposed the fraud of the ecomovement by giving trainloads of our money to green industries that then both looted it and proved that their ideas don't work. Maybe now we can all move past these loony fantasies of fuzzy bunnies and free, clean energy. I consider that having done something for me, because if everyone remembers it coal-fired power plants will remain online and I'll pay less for electricity in the future than I would were the dreams of solar, wind and biofuel power to be pursued.
He has demonstrated that politicians can still buy votes with other people's money if they can steal enough of it, and that has caused conservative funding to rise. The right is becoming more competitive in politics due to Obama.
He has exposed the media as 80% in the tank for whatever progressive pol comes along, so the public no longer pays much attention to it. That is a healthier condition for us all.
He has shown that corruption in federal government has not been controlled, that it has in fact reached new heights. That is forcing demands for reform.
He created the TEA Party through his authoritarian, braindead policies the first two years of his administration. American politics is improved thereby.
Yes, Obama has done a lot for me, if I take a broad view of it. Hats off to him.
"Progressiive pol." Oh yes, we must avoid progress at all cost. Back to epidemics and famines and child labor and slavery and lynch mobs. That's the ticket!!
Kdson, Progressive means regressive, big government has been used many times and has never worked. We are repeating history. Freedom is new, and we gave it up.
It would be great were the progressive movement about progress. Unfortunately what it's about is clinging to power for itself, suppressing dissent, and preserving the US national status quo. It talks a good game, but its first trait is hypocrisy.
Well nothing really, but he has followed almost all of George Bush's policies. He raised the national debt more than any president before him. He started bombing a few more countries. He passed the NDAA bill and also assassinates American citizens. He passed a healthcare bill that is going to raise costs and lower quality.
He doesn't feel the need to go to Congress to pass laws. He just writes them himself, while taking power that shouldn't be his.
He is giving students loans for school, which again will raise costs and lower quality. I know the student debt bubble is still growing, and I'm sure once it bursts the tax payer will have to bail them out.
So in my view, maybe a couple of people benefited, but the majority of the people don't.
I don't know how crazy this is, but I know Bush and Obama are related. If that says anything.
The people who voted down are blinded by all the lies. Open your eyes and see the truth.
It's campaign season. Truth isn't what's abroad in the land. The two-horned devil of demwit and retardican mass insanity has arrived at Hub Pages, too. No matter the character of your post, down votes are a fixture here until the election's over.
HA! Both parties endorse Fascism my friend. Both get pay outs from corporations. Especially Obama, look where his funding comes from.
Between the fascist retardican we might have had and the fascist demwit we do have there is nothing but a party label.
Recovery and Re-Investment Act helped me financially since I am in that business. His ending stop-losses in the military helped me.
He saved our house and kept us from becoming homeless by his implementation of the laws forcing mortgage companies to modify loan terms, and alleviate the pressures brought about by predatory loan tactics, that's how he's helped us!
All the critics choose to cast a blind eye to the prior EIGHT years of poor decisions, the results of which are inherited by the sitting president. The mess wasn't made in just 4 years; it's not going to be untangled in only 4, either.
We have a start, and a good one. Next up, "Obamacare" may not be perfect, but it's a step in the right direction. No doubt, there will be modifications.
Actually, the poor decisions have happened over the last 100 years, by every administration. The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion in Obama's 3 years in office. Both are bad.
