   Are we on the brink of war with Iran?
   
   Romney takes a very hard line concerning Iran.  Obama has been trying to make sanctions work, and has urged Israel to wait it out.  However, looking at newspapers from Israel, they seem to think that Iran will be capable of producing enough uranium to build 5-10 nuclear warheads, and that it is a nation on the brink of nuclear capabilities.  Do you think that, no matter who is elected, we will be at war with Iran within a year?

   I've also read in the newspapers from Jersusalem that they do not see the Obama sanctions having any effect on Iran's progress in uranium production. So because of that and the renewed verbal threats from Iran, where I read they are thinking Israel has never been as close as they are now to making a pre-emptive strike on Iran.

      I've read other articles from Israel stating that the only effective attack would be lead by the U.S.   Of course, if they do a pre-emptive strike, it would most likely pull us into it.

      Just read speculation in Israel is that Netanyahu will act in Sept or early Oct, 'cuz window closing, won't want a winter war, less leverage if Obama re-elected, and if Romney wins he's unlikely to take on a big military action early in his term.

   In 12 months, naaaaaah.  Technically Iran has been harassing us for over a decade.  They use to send soldiers and snipers across the border into Iraq.  The snipers would pick off American and Allied soldiers,  while the other people they sent would pay the Iraq civilians money to go set-up mortars to shoot on FOBs and place IED's on the road.  If we were not going to go to war because of that, then I'd say it's not very likely we will in the future.  =-P

   Perhaps but they've been saying that for a long time now. I think Romney would be more likely to go to war against Iran.
   So really I don't know, and unless you work for the Pentagon, then you really don't know either.

   I do believe that America will go on war not because of Iranian possible nuclear capability but because it has the first oil and gaz reserves in the world. So far North Korea judged dangerous, Pakistan that became our enemy have the nuclear power and what did it change on the international scene? Nothing. However nor America nor Europe can violate their territory without serious consequences.
   As for Israel, its will to be the only country in the middle-east to possess the nuclear power is as big as its ego! It needs a country like Iran to refrain its will to domination of the region!

   Romney is a paper tiger and an empty suit. Iran is not Iraq or Afghanistan. We now talk about involvement in the Syrian Civil War. I trust Obama's instincts which is to avoid this kind of military adventurism at all costs.
   
   Romney is just throwing red meat to the ignorant and eternally bellicose. Where are the resources to constantly be running after boogeymen? People who always make the drumbeat of war, but send others in to fight them.  I thought that we were to take an austere path to deal with the budget crisis we find ourselves in.

   There is NO reason for war with Iran, but to do Bibi's bidding. Iran is no threat to US security, nor have they threatened us. You all can send your kids--just like Iraq. Not me. Any prez that starts another war for Bennie, is an all-out traitor. I M O. which I am entitled to have....or maybe I'm not. We shall see how America REALLY treats freedom of speech.

   From what I have heard, neither Mossad or the IDF suports unilateral strikes. Similarly the US Secretary of Defense has very recently praised the Iranian sanctions, so I don't think either military wants a unilateral strike. I doubt the American military wants anything to do with Iran at all. The military, therefore, seems to represent a sensible and practical perspective.
   
   Unfortunately, the world is run by madmen (Ahmadinejad, Netanyahu, Putin). I didn't include Obama, because I think he is relatively sane, and has seemed very willing to pursue sanctions and international dialog. If Romney is elected we will have to wait and see, but I suspect that he is another madman, so with him, anything is possible.
   
   My suspicion is that privately American military leadership is very resistant to an attack on Iran. If Romney does want to go at Iran, than I would watch out for major changes in senior military leadership by him as a potential sign of his intentions (if elected, of course).

    We won't attack Iran because Iran is not weak enough yet. The US only attacked the two weakest countries in the Middle East because they could not defend themselves.

    Just thought I'd update this thread.  Today in the Philadelphia Inquirer is the article "Talk grows that Israel will attack Iran nuclear program".  Seems that reports are really intensifying in israel that Netanyahu is close to ordering a strike.
