Equality: Do you want equal opportunity or equal results?
President Obama always talks about sharing in the success for everyone, and paying their fair share. He sounds very good, especially because he supports fairness in everything. Do you think he means he wants to make sure everyone has a fair opportunity at success, or does he really mean that he wants everyone to have equal results? Either way, are you for equal opportunity or results?
Equal opportunity is fair for everyone and important for the economy to develop further due to the incentive received if you work harder. However, equal opportunity alone will leave you with income gap between the poor and the rich. The government should also care on the social aspect of the society, in addition to the economical aspect. Social security and welfare program are introduced to help minimize the standard deviation of income and living standard. Hence, I'm for equal opportunity with efforts for minimization of results gap.
