What would you say is the World's biggest issue?

I am not saying the biggest problem in the Middle East, the biggest problem as a Western Culture, but as a Earth-bound community, what is the largest problem we as humans are currently facing?

    http://dwilliam.hubpages.com/hub/The-Co … on-and-War

The greatest threat to the entire global civilization is the divisiveness of religions battling for superiority while preaching hatred and intolerance to maintain their control over the masses.  Mass psychic hypnosis, mass hysteria, massive brainwashing all  lead to a global madness and fueled with unfounded fear, unfounded guilt, and mistrust of each other.
The very thing that preaches against evils in this world is, in fact, that evil that causes the greatest issues for all of mankind.

And behind the trouble in religion stands ego. In fact, ego is the troublemaker behind secular problems, too. Religion has been perverted by the very thing it was meant to cure.

L77: U got that 1 right. But teaching kids 2 B delusional all their lives has no merit in changing attitudes. Religions rule this world & must move into the current century & get a little reality.

I agree with d.william, but it's the root of that that's the real culprit. The root of all evil that the both of you have mentioned is EGO. And ego begets greed and greed begets war. And war need not be as we know it. It may be an economic one or an undermined one where the entire world is slowly herded under one union in the pretence of unity and progress while in reality it is done to control and manipulate. And the reason for that is not madness but keeping the wealthy afloat.
In answer to your question then, for me it would be human ego and ignorance.

I agree with you but before any changes can occur, religions must cease their attacks on people in the name of their power and greed control over the masses.

I don't think religion is the problem, but man's own natural shortcomings. Faith makes us better people.

G.O.L. there is quite a difference between having faith in a higher power and religion.  Religions represent themselves & their control over others.  God is not a religion & teaching hatred is a failing of man alone.

Selfishness has to be it.  Individually we are selfish.  When leaders are selfish there is always great danger.  Selfishness causes jealousy, envy, desire to destroy those we don't like, trying to take what someone else has, and lying on others to get people to dislike them.

Ego is the false "self" that Jesus said we should let die, for ego is the death that we experienced in the Garden. Without ego, everlasting life through the Holy Spirit is possible

Unfortunately trying to blame people for being people and quoting from your bibles will never begin to change the root causes of the self serving.  Changes must come from the top down in order to be effective.

    @Garifalia nails it. Ego!

In Buddhist traditions, ego is ignorance -- the ignoring or turning away from truth and the Light.

Ego is selfishness, so @dianetrotter also has my vote.

@d.william makes some good points, but misses the fact that religion is only one of many facets of the problem. Why is something that purports to uphold good values acting as such a big source of discord in the world? Religion is vulnerable to ego, just like every other aspect of human civilization.

There is a group of Power Elite on Earth who are well practiced in playing ego like an instrument. They use our own egos to divide us -- gay vs. straight, Republicrat vs. Demopublican, atheist vs. believer, etc. They use the "Third Party Law" to their advantage -- that behind every persisting conflict, there remains a hidden and undisclosed third party actively fanning the flames of that conflict.

That group of Power Elite are working on pure selfishness -- pure ego. They have power, but think that power and resources are scarce. They pump this lie into their Corporate Party media propaganda machine so that everyone starts to believe it. But not everyone knows that those same Power Elite use their influence in governments and militaries to suppress the technologies that work from the paradigm of abundance -- "free" or "zero-point" energy, like that Tesla was working on a century ago.

9/11 was an inside job borne out of pure greed (more ego). The Bush family, Cheney, Rockefellers and others made a bundle off of those deaths. And it was the Bush family security company that facilitated the placement of the explosives and thermitic charges in the 3 WTC buildings which collapsed that day. It seems that the Israelis and CIA might also have been involved. More selfishness.

And when we found out that Iraq did not have WMDs and did not have Al Qaeda camps before we rolled in, did we apologize and pull our troops out? No, like a greedy, egotistical thief, we kept our hands in their pockets and continued to beat them, despite the fact that our original accusations were false.

    Solution?

Boycott the machine. Buy local. Bicycle to work. Don't react to the fear mongering. 9/11 was their tool to get us buying more tyranny. Become self-reliant to the exclusion of the government.

Put your attention on the good in humanity. Like Mother Teresa said, she would never attend an Anti-War rally, but if someone held a Peace rally, she was interested. The difference is a world-changer

Productive, meaningful work for a living wage for everyone is the biggest problem.  Yes there are wars, greed, power grabs, ethnic clashes.  Most people, however, just want to be left along and make ends meet.  When they can't make ends meet, the other problems arise.

Peace and the lack thereof. As others have mentioned the reason we cannot have peace is because of ego. Each side knows they are right in their minds, and will not budge on certain issues. Also the reason being is religion as it has been since the beginning of time. This also leads us back to ego. Even wars between those of the same religion because one believes something so deeply as the other does. So to sum it up it would be the combination of all of these things.

I accept your explanation of how ego applies, but I think the problems have more to do with prejudice, which is a form of ego, than with the basic meaning of ego referring to self .

To be or not to be, that is the answer, as old Hamlet soliloquized "back in the day" of Willie Shakespeare.  Oh, btw, he was contemplating suicide, so that would be my answer, both on an individual and group level.

I think poverty is the biggest issue. People around the world are living in horrible conditions because there are no funds to make improvements such as water, indoor plumbing, medical care, pave streets, etc. Children are drying because of the lack of food and poor sanitary conditions. We see the pictures on television, and we may even send a few dollars, but it is not enough. The countries of the world that have an abundance, and that includes us, need to come together to help the third-world countries move forward. We need investors to invest money in these areas to create an infrastructure, that will allow for building facilities that will create jobs or improve agricultural opportunities. We have poverty problems in our own country that need to be addressed. The plight of the migrant farm worker comes to mind. Our problem here is that we have access to people to sneak into the country and are willing to work for less than minimum wages with no benefits. Some employers rather do this than hire U.S. citizens and some Americans would not stoop to doing that kind of work. We need an attitude change and a world-wide plan to solve this issue.

If the world leaders are not seriously doing something about it, soon we will have more natural disasters than anything else to worry about.

The Green House effect is not going to be solved until we find a way to overcome poverty and we have to decide if the industrialized world is going to step in and let the third world countries advance on their own, or help them avoid our past errors.

Our rejection of God and His son Jesus is at the basis of all the world's problems!
Jesus is the source of all the world's goodness and our relationship with Him sustains us and makes us righteous. Apart from Jesus we can do nothing, the world's problems are an outgrowth of the problems with its poeple. Our separation from our source of life has religated us to our sins which collectively create wars, famine, hatred, tyranny, fear and anger.

Our separation from God has caused us to seek to get those needs met through worldly pursuits which never satisfy. We want things but don't get them so we try to take them from others, step on others in the process, and cut others down to make us feel better.

The fact that the majority of our world leaders are constantly lying to us as they pursue their own agendas as they themselves are being controlled like puppets by a select few. This select few has created the social systems and norms among other things keeping everyone in their little box. The suppression of consciousness as a whole on the planet is one of the biggest issues

PEOPLE WE ARE DIVINE BEINGS. Jesus is not the only son of God, we all are sons and daughters of a higher, divine, intelligence whom is the creator the bible calls God. If you doubt check into some of the Gnostic gospels that didn't make it into the Bible when Emperor Constantine of Rome set up a council of scholars to pick and choose what gospels, verses, and words made it into at the time, the new religion Christianity's holy book. God created not only this universe but many others like it. We are not just human beings but divine beings, wake up and realize your true essence and get out of the control systems that this utopia of a planet has been subjected to and has had forced  down its every orifice.

THE SUPPRESSION OF CONSCIOUSNESS ON A WORLD LEVEL IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE, THIS ISSUE CREATES LACK, WHICH LIKE IN STAR WARS (WHEN YODA TALKS HOW OTHER EMOTIONS BREED OTHER EMOTIONS) CREATES THE HATRED, NEED OF SURVIVAL, GREED, WARS, ECT...

I personally think that one of the biggest problem we as human beings are facing is indifference to what is right and what is wrong as well as identifying what is actually right and what is actually wrong.
We are so interested in ourselves that we forget to think about other people and what is good for them.
We are going to kill ourselves if we continue this way, i think.

I wish there could be one or two issues, but there are many. To name a few, I think it is the economic slowdown and the global warming. There is need for peaceful co existence among nations, to solve the major challenges faced by mankind as a whole and there are some great answers here for that.
