Will there ever be a conflict between the United States and China?
It's almost inevitable that there will be some type of naval engagement in the decade. I think this would have happened sooner if not for the 9/11 attacks. Remember just prior to that the U.S. had a spy plane brought down over Hainan Island.
Since every educated person knows that we are the aggressor. If an assault has to happen it will under our order. Given that we are placing our pawns along the Chinese coastline, the Chinese started to update their military float to prevent any action, to trigger deterrence.
And what was this plane doing over Chinese territory or in Chinese airspace? If it's not provocation, what is it?
I would disagree that we are the aggressor. China invaded Ladakh last week. They are clearly looking to expand not only their power base, but through land grabs as well. They did it in the early sixties too. Like the Soviets, they need a rival.
We invaded Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria (by proxy), in what way are we a model?
Although I don't agree with the Iraq and Afghan actions, I would disagree over Libya. Removing Khaddafi (pardon the spelling) was a good thing. People are free now. It'll take a few years. As for Syria, we have to see. Appreciate your passion on this
Not likely. We owe them too much money for financing our wars. They are also one of biggest trade partners and every company in the U.S. wants a share of their market. Our relations with China may become tense from time to time but we will never go to war. Note: They also have nuclear bombs.
China makes too much money off of us to enter into any kind of serious armed conflict.
I believe you are talking about a military conflict.
China and the US are in conflict and competition, and have been for over 50 years, and will continue to be, probably, for a couple hundred more years.
I am sure there will be tense incidents.
I doubt there will ever be an ongoing war or a nuclear incident.
The US can't win a war against a tiny country like Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan. We're too smart to attack China and lose.
China can't win a war against the US, and has no need to. A single-party government can afford to take the long view and slowly build economic power and social influence over decades and, literally, centuries. In that time frame, China will simply outlast the US within 100 years, and they can afford to wait.
Then China will fall after the US, from similar mistakes.
All of this is clear in the long view, unless either nation makes a major and unexpected change of course. You can read more about my view in my hub, "No Economic Recovery Coming: Welcome to the Fifth World."
Great points. In thinking of China as the next Soviet Union/Cold War rival, I forget about how much are economies are intertwined. Much more so than they were w/the Soviet Union.
Lions44 - The cold war was a conflict between Western capitalism and Western Marxism. Marxism failed first. But the underlying assumptions of USSR, US & China are the same. Unless we change at a deeper level, all will fail, in that order.
