Yeah ....it's Obama's supporters who think the world is flat...not the drunken hillbillies who oppose him.  You're sure makin' some sense tonight.

"He's about to pass an historic albeit imperfect health care reform bill"

Democrats celebrating mediocrity, wow, not really a surprise.

If the bill is mediocre it's due to GOP and Blue Dog obstructionism, not to Obama.

The definition of (expensive) mediocrity (from National Geographic):

That pretty much tells the story. Nothing like the facts. There's plenty of room for improvement in the U.S. Our costs are double those in Canada, and the results are worse.

Really? Obstruction? The minority cannot obstruct, but Democrats who know its a bad bill and want the typical kickback will! Keep singing the praises of Obama all the way back to Chicago, obstruction lol, good luck trying to spin that one in November 2010!

When will you people learn, the GOP has no say. That's what 60 votes does.

        Ralph,

The GOP has no say in anything and the Blue Dogs cave in for a price. I'm sure you've seen all this in print.

    Had To Be Said:

President Obama might have made quite a few mistakes but one thing is for sure George Bush did'nt get critizized as  much and he created mass unemployment, created a war, sign bills to put money in his friends pockets and made sure he will continue to make money for himself and his friends, Second being the son of a man that works for Osama Bin Ladin the so called father of the terroist that caused 911 and gave the man two weeks to leave town when all along rumors floating that he was in a UN hospital with the flu. Third how in the world did they blow up the Pentagon with an airplane when the grass in front of the Pentagon wasnt even touched.Last but no least how in the world did one plane collaspe a building that was hit before n almost the same spot years ago and did not create the same damage. In conclusion people need to realize this man was handed a broken down cabin without windows and was sworned in to build a castle out of it, we as American need to stand strong for divided we fall and United we stand.

I'm not a fan of the president, but I think he actually stands a pretty good chance of being reelected, especially if the Republicans are divided and cannot field a strong candidate in the next few months.

But I do believe that the Democrat Congress is going to get the boot in 2010. Watching them self-destruct is spectacular. We'll probably return to some semblance of the 90s when the nation had a Democrat president and a Republican Congress.

To the question is Obama an one term president? The answer is: Not if the GOP has anything to do about it.

      dfun,

His polls keep going down and things will get worse for him before the 2010 elections. I expect inflation and unemploymet to gain ground.

All I have to say is the Government has not let us down. On the other hand it is us that let the Government down. Yes by our lack of interest in our government of the people, by the people, for the people. We have for some time thought the government was in place to do everything for us, protect us, feed us, and keep us healthy. At least that is what we assumed after we elected them into office. We are the ones who let them get out of control, by being too trusting.
    We should have never:
    1.     gave private banking be put in charge of minting our currency, yes the Federal Reserve Bank
    2.     allowed the House and the Senate to give their selves  pay raises and to increase their own budgets without approval of the people
    3.    been able to take the states’ rights to control their own commerce away

These are just a few things we allowed by being too trusting, thinking they (the government) our representatives would do what we needed to do without any oversight. They are men and women and can be corrupted with money and power like anyone can.
We allowed this to happen and it is we who have to fix it.

I agree and hope that Americans can see that the politics of this nation are ill equiped to lead us out of this situation.

We the people have got to put away the polarized bickering and begin a dialog that will defeat the slime on the hill from further power mongering and criminal activities.  As well documented on this forum there is much party bravada which only enables the current separation to keep the corruption in power.  The only question is who will be able to step forward and organize the neccessary articles to begin the retaking of our country?

I really hope he is NOT a one term president.  He inherited a terrible economy and 2 wars.  People forget that these problems existed pre-Obama and he is no magician.  It would be a shame if he lost the next election b/c he was unable to clean up the mess left by Bush quickly enough.

Don't think that will be the reason.

What Obama needs to do is get congress to pass a bill that only contains the information on the law it is on. Stop them from the promises in the bill to different congressmen for swinging their vote for the bill. This is part of the problem that creates those 1000 to 2000 page bills. There is no reason why a bill for a proposed law cannot be written in less than 10 Pages.
He would have to stop industries for giving money to the congressmen you know frivolous campaign contributions. They have public funds for Campaigns.  The problem is they would have to spend too much time in their territories and that might let their constituents learn too much about their moral fiber.  You know if the people really got to know their Representatives’   and they did a good job they would not have any problems.    Also we might need term restrictions 2 or maybe 3 terms on each Representative and Senator.

rhamsonposted 15 years agoin reply to this

Obama does not have the power to change the way bills are presented or passed as this is a well entrenched system for congress members to gain political capital and favor with their colleagues.  The amount of effort and money neccessary to win re-election dictates it and most are career politicians.

The lobbyists are the bastard child of the Supreme Court with their interpretation of constitutional law.  The whole process is "legal" as per them and the rules are easily gotten around by clever means.

Public campaign financing is a real problem for any congressman to accept as we all know an abundant war chest is the first step to victory in a campaign. Why would you want to make the playing field even if you did not need too. As far as getting the "Slime on the Hill" to accept term limits you have to ask yourself would you vote yourself out of a job if your career were at risk?

rhamson, There is got to be a way that we as the people can correct this. We do have the vote if we can get the people together. Don't we?

        1. rhamson profile image70
rhamsonposted 15 years agoin reply to this

I can think of only two ways to make any headway for change.  One would be referendums on ballots about the concerns and their remedies.  When people vote issues instead of politics there is a more passionate response from the electorate.  It also allows exposure of the issues to be known for people to vote on and undermines party politics.

Another way would be to get a truly objective third party started.  This would garner the quick support needed to oust the entrenched politicians and hold accountable the parties for their transgressions.  It would take a lot of effort but these are extraordinary times and perhaps the time has come.
